GEC Single Blade Comparo

This is not exhaustive or even complete, but gives a good idea of the comparative sizes of several different GEC single blade folders.

In order from top to bottom they are patterns 83, 15, 73, 74, 86, 42, 23. I also limited the photo to drop points and clips, to show the different angles the blades come off the bolsters. I attempted to line up the front edge of the bolsters to highlight both blade lengths and handle lengths. If you have photos of other patterns, please post them here for our collective benefit.

John, I love how tight the grain structure is on the 72, looks very hard and smooth.

A 14 is the only single blade GEC I have. Shown next to a 2 blade 85 Harness Jack.

86, 23, 73, 12, and 15.

Oddly enough the 86 carries, to me, notably larger than the 73, even though they’re a similar size. The 23 feels massive, I can’t even imagine how a 2 blade in this pattern would weigh down the pocket. The 15 feels very diminutive as a single blade with synthetic covers.

You do for sure.

I snagged mine for a good price a few weeks ago and it's one of my favorite knives now. I was surprised how small it is but the pattern with the clip blade are fantastic together and it's a perfect 5th pocket knife.

I haven’t kept up with all of GEC’s offerings over the years, 2 1/2” blade?…2 3/4? I don’t need as much knife now as I did years ago, I think I’d be just fine with an 83 and whatever SAK I have in my pocket.
