I am new to traditional knifes and wanted to get some info about the GEC stags in particular. I have been eyeing the #13 as they look really nice, but thought that I read somewhere that all of the stag handle knives are numbered? However, I don't see any number of the new #13s. Is the numbering scheme only utilized for certain knives or only a select few items?

Thanks for the insight.

There are usually two types of stag GEC does, natural and burnt. This refers to the appearance of the stag. Natural stag knives usually have a serial number on the front side bolster, while burnt stag knives usually don't. For example say they make 50 natural stag knives, they will be numbered within that run only. 1 to 50.

There are few hard/fast rules with "Stag" or "Burnt Stag" or "Sambar Stag"; they have come numbered and not. Natural Stag and Genuine Stag are always numbered (although they don't do Genuine anymore). The 13's are all labeled Sambar Stag and none are numbered or burnt.
