Great Eastern Cutlery is really on top of their game when it comes to stag in its several varieties.

Recently we've had a thread or two on their Red Stag (which I don't own), but here are the other types.

From L to R: Burnt Stag Furtaker Trapper, Burnt Stag Scout, Burnt Stag Toothpick, 2nd Cut Stag Toothpick, Genuine Stag Cuban Stockman

I have not only been impressed with the quality of their stag, but also how well they match up the two slabs for color, character and thickness.

Nice group of knives there, Jeff.

I've found several of their knives appealing but have (as yet) to pull the trigger. That day is probably coming, however...

Very nice!

I find it interesting that the cuban has no shield.

Luciano, they have stated that they don't wish to cover up their premium "genuine" stag with a shield-- they all come without shield.
The burnt, dyed and 2nd cut varieties all have shields.

Ah, that makes sense I guess. Thanks for the info!

Interesting. I thought the "genuine" stag knives included a loose/detached shield in the tube. I guess that's what I get for thinking.

They do...at least they are supposed to.

The burnt stag knives are still real stag, but they are altered (burned) for better appearance. the genuine stag is unchanged from its natural external condition.

I have a couple of GEC stag knives of the Northfield variety and they are absolute works of art. Currently have the #25 barlow and a #36 sunfish.

The Sunfish is one big knife and I was thoroughly impressed with GEC's ability to match the scales in terms of pattern and thickness. I am sure the bigger the piece of stag the harder it gets to match two of them.

I appreciate a nice traditional slip-knot of any pattern or scales material, but there is something about about a stag handled knife that seems to make them stand out in my mind.

Very nice knives you have. I just picked up the Furtaker Trapper (in my pocket now) and it is one sweet knife. I wasn't sure about the cigar shape due to the plain looks of it. This handle shape is great in terms of size and how nice it fills the hands. No sharp edges to hurt when applying pressure during cutting. Blade sizes are optimum for what I like. One nice knife. It is my first and only GEC so far. I also really like the other serpentine blade. Wharncliffe and serpentine are my two favorite blade shapes for folders. Thanks for the nice pictures - Ed

mamba those stag stocks are rare babies---yours is the 1st. looks like you beat me again. thanks for showing & the info.

Here's a small shot of SN #02.

Well, since they don't ever sell #1, that makes yours the lowest numbered one out there.

It's my understanding that they keep all the #1s for their collection/archive/museum thingy.

Hmm, it seems that GEC made 58 Genuine stags for 2008. That kinda surprises me since they came out in March 2009 and I only saw these three for sale.

The burnt stag ones are the rarest for 2008. Only 6 of those.

Here is a group shot of the 02 03 and 04 from tsaknives.

Oh wait, that is not true. I did see a few more and bought another one. That one has been at GEC for over a year because I tried to bend the spey blade a little to align it better in the frame and broke it off. oops.

They have not had any spares to replace it.

But some new Cuban stockmen are in the works, so maybe a blade will be available soon.
