Why does GEC put pairs of matching blades in their 4 blade congress pattern knives?

I much prefer having 4 different blades (As several other makers do) and Im wondering if anyone knows the decision making process at GEC in this regard?

I wish they ( Gec ) would make a 4" with sheepsfoot, pen, spear, and coping. The congress has become my favorite pattern, my preference being the four different blade setup, but I've been carrying one with two sheepsfoot and two pen blades for about two weeks, I put two different blade profiles on the like blades, and it's worked out for me, maybe Derrick will do a 4 different blade Northwoods :-)

The Square bolstered Congress is a classic, and by far my favorite pattern.

Having 2 pairs of the same blade comes off as lazy to me. :(

Yea, my large stag Boker is my favorite, the congress I've been carrying lately with 2 sheep & 2 pen blades was a impulse buy, price was really good and I really liked the Himalayan Rams horn scales, I haven't been as bothered as I thought I'd be by the repetitiveness, but if I had any real work or carpentry to do today I would switch out to my large Boker , each blade is used for a different task, sheepsfoot for general utility, coping for detail work, pen is my muck/ scraper blade, spear for when belly or point is needed, it's my ultimate all purpose utility knife.

They made a few #61s with a spear, 2 sheepscliffe, and a pen.

They made this for Tuna Valley on the #53 frame. 440C and thicker than a regular #53.

I've got a 2-blade Congress on the way to me as of today in fact - my first one. A pattern I've become fascinated with lately and am very excited to try. This one is the Warnie/Coping combo and is very slim. I also like the way the blades, when closed, are very low profile down into the channels.

The Warnie is also going to be new to me - my first experience with this blade profile. The sharpening of a perfectly straight edge on both Warnie and Coping is very easy without a belly on the edge profile.

Let's see some pics of your Congress knives :) I'll post mine when it arrives early next week.

I just got bit by Great Eastern a couple of months ago, and I'd love to buy a congress model from them, but the double pairing just doesn't do it for me. I'd jump on one in a heartbeat if they came out with that set of blades, though.

Case still makes a very nice Congress with a sheepsfoot, pen, spear, and coping blade. They are also readily available on the web.

I like your old Case congress, not a fan of the blade shapes on the newer Case congress knives, they look odd, plus no CV offerings ( just my preference) and the older CV ones I find on the auction site tend to be pricey. I like my Boker, would just like to see Gec make a four different blade offering.

My favourite congress is a boker with two sheepsfoot mains and a pen and coping as secondaries. It works well for me, I tend to use it in the garden and and my garage and I tend to use the sheepsfoot blades the most, when one gets dull, I have another identical one. Like the muskrat principal.
