I've been eyeballin one of these things to split duty with my old trapper. Anybody have one? What are your thoughts on it? Is there a difference between the various brands other than name? Pics of different handle materials are appreciated too.

The Northfield and Tidioute stamps are 1095.The Great Eastern stamps are SS. I believe the Tidioute stamp is marketed as their "economy" class knives, and the Northfield as their "premiere" class.I really have seen no difference in quality between the 2,the Northfield maybe having a few more "bells and whistles".

There is not a Great Eastern (Stainless) model at this time. Here are some of the others....

Thanks Mr. Latham. Your website's where I first saw one of these things. It quickly evolved into one of those wierd obsessions that I'm sometimes prone to. You'll be getting an order from me soon.

Hey River Rat. I've picked up a tidioute #73 jack in burnt arrowhead bone and it is beautiful. 1095 blades as well. I'm eyeing one of their whittlers as well, or a big jack.

Mike is a great guy to deal with as well. Waitin on a Bulldog whittler from him right now.

Howdy Mike. I've been drooling over the patterns you just named, as well. Between Case, GEC, and Moore Maker, I've gone into slippie overload. So many knives and not near enough money.
