I just got this little stag GEC and noticed something I had not seen before. Probably old news but it is new news to me. I have had some of the Northfield UN-X-LDs before and the blades were etched with the logo like on this toothpick. Not being a fan of blade etches, I almost always got out the Simichrome and tried to rub them away. However on this most recent one the logo is not etched on the blade and instead it is actually stamped with UN-X-LD. I like the stamped version. This little 3 inch stag puppy is nice one too.

Yeah they did the stamped logo on a few patterns for a while. I think I remember seeing it on some sunfish as well.

I used to hate the etching that comes on most GEC's, but I have actually grown to like it. Not that I go out of my way to preserve it in most cases.

You have two very nice knives there. I really like the color of the toothpick's bone. Looks like a great piece of stag as well. I like those steel barlows alot.

I like marked blades, and I like stamped blades enormously! Much more so than etches.
A stamp doesn't have that transitory feel. It doesn't matter if you use the knife; it'll still be there.
An etch, especially a light one will fade away easily, looking like it never belonged there in the first place - kind of like an old price tag. . . . . . . . .

The stamped blade looks good. Hopefully GEC is going this route on all marked blades.

Very nice those little jack knives! As mentioned above and some have seen this knife in other posts, the GEC Northfield Sunfish has the name stamped also. I think this is only done on the knives that are made with steel liners and bolsters.

Now that you mention it, that does seem to be the case.

An interesting note; my GEC 25 Barlow has steel liners, pins and bolsters but being Tidioute instead of Northfield, it has no blade etch or stamp.
