I got my first GEC (micarta 71) and its great! Now I want another but they 71 is tough pull. Does anyone know how the western trapper pulls? I'm looking for something thats a bit easier on my nails and really like the look of the western so I'm hoping its not a killer!

thanks

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the 71s have the strongest pulls for GEC. That's just what I've heard. I'm assuming the Western Trappers are way better.

If you are referring to the #48 Western Trapper, I don't own one of those but I do have the #48 Trapper and #48 Improved Trapper and both have nice, normal pulls, 5-6 ish.

You are wrong. The strongest pulls are, in no particular order, 23, 73, 36, 45/46. The 71's are sweet at about a 7 or 8.

My 71 has a nice 6ish. All of my 48s are a 5-6. No issues at all.

I do not know about the other models but my 73 has a good solid pull. I wish all of my very limited collection had a pull as hard as the 73. I am also a big fan of the square tang on my 73.

I really need to find asecond one and put it away for future use.

Absolutely true! 36s and 45/46s can be bear traps...definitely 10s.

23s and 73s are a 9-9.5

Remember, they all become a little better over time.
