GEC Wharncliff Lockbacks

That is pretty cool! I may have to consider getting one of those...

And the Angels began to sing!!!

Holy cow, that one's gone onto the list for sure.
I have my #73 in my pocket right now, and I can't say enough good things about the pattern. . . AND NOW GEC has made sure that I'll never have words to express how good of a pattern it is.

Way to go GEC!!

Wharnie and Spear points, two of my fave blade types  I think my wallet is about to commit a ritual suicide... :D

I've been looking forward to this one, but true to form, GEC's Wharncliffe profile is somewhat boxy across the blade spine. IMO, an aesthetically well proportioned Wharncliffe always displays a continuous flowing curve from point to tang, whereas GEC's Wharnies always start out stiffly rectangular and begin their rounded taper somewhere around the halfway mark. :(

Note the rounded profiles:

It's still a handsome knife, and I may still bite, but GEC needs to take a closer look at the venerable Wharncliffe blade and realize that theirs tend to be a bit clunky looking compared to most everyone else's.

Looks like this may be my first GEC! I love Wharncliffe blades so this looks like a must-have.

Is the bolster on the ebony version brass, or is that just the picture?

If it's brass, it's lookin' good!

I'm not a huge fan of wharnie master blades, but these do look cool.

Just the picture. They take a picture on white background then photoshop it onto the scenery. I have noticed it gets bleached many times or the colors change a little.

Thanks for the heads up. I bought one of the Beaver Tail models in jigged bubbinga wood from collectorknives after seeing this. The GEC models are nice but I rather like the satin finish and jigged bone handles for a user over the smooth ebony or bone. That long pull of either the ebony or bone handled one from GEC was tempting though. In the end I took the Tidioute model though. Interesting that even GEC was short of supply of these when I called. I think they'll be hot. Nice to see a young USA company putting out such fine products.

Remember that GEC doesn't normally make their knives in large numbers. The red stag lockbacks only numbered about 30. So take into account the numbers that the dealers get and there aren't usually many (if any at all) left over.
