Anybody have any pictures of GEC White Pearl LG+? Is it a plastic/resin/acrylic material or glass? I'm looking (on-line) at a GEC Toothpick with this handle material and several different descriptions have left me wondering what this material is other than actual pearl.

I really dig how you can see the outline of the pins through the translucent veneer. Something so functional about it that makes it very appealing:thumbup:.

By the way, I realize certain blades are meant for certain jobs, but do you prefer the single secondary, or double secondary blade configuration with the #62's? i guess i'm asking which is more convenient\comfortable

I've never been a fan of pearl/acrylic scales, but some of these make me reconsider my viewpoint on the matter.

I'd say it's personal preference, but I prefer the double secondary. The handle is a bit thicker and feels more confortable in hand (at least for me). But the thing that bugs me the most on the single secondary is the thickness of the small blade, the secondaries on the whittler are much better for small accurate cuts.

Thanks Boggs - those close-up pictures really help. I could go for GEC's Powderhorn (#12) as an EDC. The "latest" Tidioute blade for the #12 has been criticized as too big - I consider it a single blade jack rather than a traditional toothpick so I'm OK with the blade. The Powderhorn would just be "more gooder" IMO. Currently, I bounce between a Tidioute Ebony Toothpick (Work) and a Case Amber CV Texas Jack (Sundays). The Pearl LG+ appeals to me as a good compromise between looks and durability. Does the LG+ carry well or is it too deleicate for EDC?

not to answer for the op, but i have owned a lg knife in the past, and for me, it makes a great edc. The problem is what ELSE you have in your pockets: if youre throwing your looking glass knife in with your multiple keys, it really does a number on the looks of the knife. Think of it as getting a brand new swiss army knife, and how shiney it is, and then compare it to an old sak youve had and how its all matte and scratched.

I hope this helps.

Thanks. Ive been in love with this knife for over a year, ive saved every single possible image to be found on the web of this knife, and i couldnt decide between the single \ double secondaries. These knives pack a lot of blades in a tiny space, and i dont want any blade rubbing. Have you found this to be a problem?

Shrapne1.....

I'm with Sturzi on this one......but the pattern either way 2 or 3 blades really lends itself to a comfortable pocket carry...

Technically there is no blade rub on both of mine (there are gaps when closed). The problem is that the small blades bend when you press on the nail nick to pull them out, rubbing against the main blade. But that's the case for most of my traditionals. It's less of a problem on the half congress, because the secondary blade is stiffer, but there still are small marks. It's never bothered me, might be something to consider though if you care about it.
Now it certainly is possible that I open them the wrong way, who knows. I'm a self taught knife opener, maybe I should take a class sometime :P

You are totally right; i have the same problem with my executive whittler. Now im not claiming to be a guru or anything, but i discovered a little tip. Obviously you just said you dont care about blade rubbing, which on a user i can totally appreciate. But i guess when you first get a knife and you want to admire its beauty (or if you collect), the scratches can be a pain. So the tip i have, (which coincidentally was talked about by Rick in another thread), is to open the primary blade first, and then open whichever secondary you need.

thanks for your input

Just got my LG+ pearl Powderhorn Jack from Greg (TSA)... I like the inherent durability of the hybrid handle type. The defect that caused GEC to classify this as an EDC is so minute that without just the right lighting and magnification you can't see it. Since this will be carried often (I've got it in my pocket right now) I expect it to earn a little pocket wear - that's what makes it "my" knife. LG+ is hard to photograph with office lighting - these pictures do not do this material justice. This knife is handsome and the jack configuration is one of my favorites along with toothpicks so I've got the best of both patterns IMO.

Looks quite nice to my eyes. I never have been one for MOP or pearl handles due to durability as well as cost, but this stuff seems to be a fine medium. I like the Powder Horn Jack pattern as well and have had one off and on my short list for quite some time. All in all the #12 PJ in pearl seems to be an attractive knife IMO. I really like that combo.

Do you still have these? I am looking to buy a 53 cattle rancher in LG+ white pearl. My question is "Through the time you have owned them, has the acrylic shown signs of yellowing or anything?" I get nervous about clear acrylic turning as it ages. Great collection by the way!
