Just so our people would have some idea of what this new "pocketable" GEC pattern looks and rides like,
I decided to compare it to one of the most common slippies out there, the Case #32 pattern Texas Jack.

First some photos

This one shows how perfectly centered the Mink's blades are in the frame

And here I show how the new Mink is even slimmer when closed than the Case

Measurements:

Mink Length: Listed @ 3-1/2", mine measures a hair over 3-7/16"
Jack Length: Listed @ 3-5/8", mine measures right at 3-9/16" (an eighth longer)

Mink Width: Top to bottom closed @ widest point is .735"
Jack Width: Top to bottom closed @ widest point is .753" (eighteen thousandths wider)

Mink Thickness: @ widest point is .539"
Jack Thickness: @ widest point is .511 (28 thousandths thinner)

I happen to have a very good example of the Case Texas Jack, with very good F&F, straight blades, good snap, flush springs at open and closed--
a great little carry knife, which I do a lot.

But the Tidioute Mink is in my favorite bone, burnt grizzly cut, has a single digit serial number, round bolsters, and in all the parameters cited above for the Jack,
the Mink shows at least as well. This is truly a pocket gem!

That is a great looking knife!

Thanks for the comparison pictures.:thumbup:

While I'm not a big fan of redundant blades (generally speaking) I will say it's about time as I've been looking for a reason to give serious consideration to a GEC knife but couldn't find anything that for the most part didn't give a blocky appearance to my eye. (Toothpick aside.)

Now if they'll just offer the Northfield slim trapper in a flat grind instead of a saber grind, I may have found the first one. (Are you listening out there in GEC land?)

Jeff, I really like the "look" of your knife and the photography and comparisons are first rate!

Thanks, Elliott. This new pattern is truly a winner, and if they come out with the Northfield brand in a stockman with swedges and burnt stag, I will line right up to play!

Like these, the most recent release?

If they really wanted to make me happy, they'd offer some of the Northfield's sterile with just a tang stamp and shield to identify it. Now that would really be enticing (by my lights).

Exactly, Mike, but with the Northfield swedging and badging. I prefer the look of the Northfield's but when I called to inquire about them, I was informed that the Northfield's to be offered will be saber ground.

Can't really say I see the point of that on a knife meant as a keen slicer.

elliott gec keeps surprising all of us.[maybe not joebob] seems they walk a thin line between the collectors eye & the redneck okra eaters like myself. thoughts of unique beauty & ole timey country roads are simutaneously emanated from the patterns. dennis

Too funny, Dennis.

I like Okra myself and I'd be willing to bet the hands working the fields would agree with me about the flat grind vs a saber grind. ;)

Beauty is more than skin deep! (As you well know).:thumbup:

Dennis, for sure one thing I DIDN'T know about you is that you're a poet! Good post.

elliott if these flat grinds do'nt cut the mustard you may be surprised later on. thanks for the compliments guys. we have a 48 a 66 & all we're missing is a rocket88. dennis

Dennis, that stag trapper is looking good! Be nice as a single blade as well!:cool:

Could definitely see something like that one in the pocket.

I believe I'll be picking this one up,

I love trappers in the old Schrade 194ot style, and for some reason that silly beaver shield just calls to me. I hope they release a liner lock 23 Beaver Tail.

For some reason, that Beaver shield just screams classic to me. I wonder if that is based on some historical pattern that once had that shield. Anyone know?

If this knife had the Clip, and a warncliffe,or even better,a mod. warncliffe,it would be really sweet. The two same blades,to me,is just OK.
For all the nice work they turn out, you'd think someone at that outfit coulda thought the design/blading through,a little better. Nice knife, that could've been a killer knife, though.

I would bet good money that GEC plans on many different variations on the #66 frame. They've done scads of different blade combinations and layouts on all of their other frames, why would this one be any different?

I'm looking forward to the stockman layout. :D

I'm very excited about the #66 frame, I just haven't seen a configuration that trips my trigger, yet.
