Pending the upcoming ban on all ivory in commercial transactions, GEC decided to use up their remaining elephant ivory by hafting a number of knives of different patterns. Hence, this was the ultimate run (= last).
I saw these at KSF with only a few knives remaining. I bought the last of the #53 pattern with what GEC calls "bark ivory", referring to the surface of the tusk that always has scarring marks on it. This 53 pattern is a 4 1/8" Equal End Double End Jack (aka "Cigar Jack"). The master blade is marked 531213. The "13" refers to 2013, so it was an unsold knife that they re-hafted.
The ivory is a little disappointing. It has nice creamy color with yellowish areas. But no grain shows, not even with a 9x loupe. Likely this is true of all bark ivory ?

I would like to see the other knives from this final GEC run with elephant ivory so if you have one please post your pics in this thread.
I would like to keep it just to the above mentioned knives. If you have other GEC ivory knives it would be good to start a thread just for those ones. Also to keep this thread from getting too 'bulky' how about if you like a knife say so but no real need to keep re-posting the same pics.
O.K. i hope to see the other knives they made up posted here.
