Has anyone here ever used GEC's warranty?

I am wondering what they consider "defects in material and workmanship."

I had a 33 a few years ago with some wobble. They tightened it up. Easy peezy. I would guess materials and workmanship would be gaps in liners that were more than light slivers (never seen that...) blade wobble (one time out of maybe 15 knives...and maybe I was being OCD) soft snap maybe? Gec quality is very high and I don’t think they miss much going out the door.

I defer to the gurus.

Yeah that would bother me too. Maybe they are slippin in the out the door inspections...or the lumber shrank? Hope the fix it up nice for you.

I struggled to send it in, as it was the nicest ironwood I've seen, but it became the first thing I saw when I looked at it.

I don't think it was shrinkage, the gap was diagonal, flush on one end, and about the width of one of the bolster flutes/cuts on the other.

So the things I was wondering about were some thin gaps that you can only see when it is back-lit and a small pit in the top of the blade. Here are the pics.

I think the liners you can shine a tiny bit of light through are par for the course with a gec. Never bothered me at all and most I owned had a little light shine through somewhere. Now if you can fit a toothpick in the gaps I would think send it in. The tiny pit wouldn’t bother me one bit. It’s gonna get scratched in the old pocket, right? But collecting for me is not a priority with knives.

Liner gaps seem to be pretty common on the 74's and 47's

Good to know. The knife in my pic is a 47.

That's true. I plan on using this knife. I collect knives, but I also use all of my knives. It's no fun letting them sit in a drawer for years and years.

Yea, send an email to Joan Mae with photos describing your concern. They are pretty responsive, you should get a reply within a couple days.

Light slivers through the liners are common across all brands. People who say they never see any are not looking very hard. When a sliver becomes a gap can be subjective. If you are concerned about the pit, consider inspecting future purchases in person prior to paying.

Inspecting GEC knives in person would be next to impossible considering my only chance to purchase them are through online dealers or on ebay.
