GEC's - which models came with 440C

Call me a heretic if you will, I love traditional knives, but I really do prefer stainless blades. Especially if they are 440C steel, and the one example: GEC #25 EO in 440C is one of my current favorite knives. So...how many models did GEC produce in stainless, and what were they?
Thanx for any and all pertinent input...

In 2006 and 2007 only #23 Pioneers and #73 Scouts were made with 440C.
2008 had more #23s and #73s, plus #53 Cuban muskrats and stockmen in 440C.
2009 added more #23s and #73s.
2010 added #12 toothpicks, #25 barlows and jacks, plus more #53 muskrats.
2011 added more #23s and #73s, plus #33 conductors, #61 half congresses, and #72 lockbacks.
2012 has so far added more #73s, #48 trappers, both single and two bladed in 440C.

I believe some H50 and H60 fixed blades were also made with 440c. Just recently GEC released Elk and Pioneer bone H73312 Saber Skinner Hunters and H73412 Up Land Hunters in 440c. All the other GEC branded H73 and H23s are 1095. You have to check the blade for Cyclops Steel Works if you want 440c. Tidioute Iron Works is 1095.

Also, #89s are soon to be released in 440c.
#89 Stainless 440C Melon Tester – spear/pen blades
Bone – color to be determined
American Elk
American Wood – type to be determined

I spoke with Ryan Daniels on the phone a year and a half ago and he said that they were purchasing new machinary to run more models in 440C and that we would see that by Fall (2011). Of course, the Daniels have since left and, sadly, GEC is continuing to offer very little in stainless. I dig GEC but honestly the lack of new stainless models with interesting handle scale options has turned off my spending valve.

Hopefully the Daniels end up purchasing Queen and sticking with D2.

Not enough, is my lament.

It's a pity that existing patterns are not later re-released in stainless, second run say. I'm certain they'd sell very well. I assume their stainless is harder stuff to work and is more costly, this probably keeps GEC from offering more of it.

Knife companies can't win can they? Lot of people nag CASE for not putting out more cv now we nag GEC about the stainless:D:thumbup:

The fact that they have made any 440C bladed knives makes me happy, and the lists given here will narrow my search quite a bit to hopefully find one or two patterns that I am interested in :)

sitflyer, I hope you don't me cluttering up your thread with pics. Here's one of the #53 Muskrats from 2008.

I like the looks of the Elk scales on GEC's more recent models better but I sure do like this knife.

2Dead, and Rick, Thank You both...any and all input is sincerely apreciated :)
and that is a drop dead gorgeous Muscrat

Thanks, sitflyer. I would like to get one of the Elk handled Stockmans one of these days.

I can manage 1095 or O1 but it rains over here a lot and I'm out in it whatever!

Currently carrying a black Bullnose as my work knife, waiting on a A.G. Russell Rancher in black. Suspect this will become my wet weather work knife, shame as I'd love to stick with GEC but have grown tired of waiting for a single blade #73 or Bullnose pattern in 440C.....

I'd love a 440c single blade #73 or #71 too but if you really really want one... you could always get a 2 blade model and have it converted to 2 single blade knives. Just a thought.

Hmm, I had similar thoughts along those lines.....

Me too. I got 2 of the new #73s in walnut because I love the way they look with the endcap. One to keep and one to mod but I haven't moved forward yet.

Rick, that really is a great looking muskrat. I'm sure the 2 skinner blades are super friendly. It must feel like a thick single bladed knife but you get 2 blades. My FTM arrived today. I got one in that American Wormy Chestnut. Good looking stuff imo. Not you're ordinary material.
