Wow, I can't believe g-shocks have been around since 1983 and I just discovered them the other day. After a bit of net searching it is obvious they do have an almost "cult status."
Love them or hate them, no in between! A mind numbing number of models and styles. Can be found brand new on ebay from $25.00 to $200.00.
I know this. If I could turn the clock back and be twenty years old again, I would be a white water raft guide, and be wearing a g-shock!

I do wish the baby g's came with anolog hands as I would love to get my wife one. She is a nurse and has to have the second hand. (her opinion after nursing for 25 years.) She is also able to destroy watches without even trying. And for that matter many things normal people have for years without tearing up, but thats another story.

There are some analog Casios and they're pretty tough. They're not as tough as a G-Shock; I don't think it's possible to make anything with moving parts as shock-resistant as a G-Shock, but they're pretty hard to break. Seiko dive watches are pretty hard to break, too....

The other approach would be to learn to take a pulse with a digital. Many people find it just as easy. The great thing about an analog with a luminous second hand is you can take a pulse in a dark room and not disturb the patients, though.

Aren't there any analog Baby-Gs at all?

I know there are several analog/digital G-shocks, and all have luminous hands.

I am also a nurse (MICU) and I use a number of watches at work including a Timex Turn and Pull, a Tag F1, an Omega Seamaster Pro, my Luminox, and my digital G-Shock. As far as night shifts go, the G-Shock doesn't serve my purposes as I don't like to use the backlight often as it wears the batteries pretty hard. However, for day shifts, the G-Shock functions well. Although it is different to time pulses, drug administration (esp while during a code), etc etc, it just takes time to adapt. If she destroys watches quickly, then a G-Shock would surely suit her. I have banged mine up against beds, walls, cabinets, and about everything else and it still runs.
Matt

As far as learning to use a digital display at work she just has no intrest in doing so. Just set in her ways I guess. She does work nights and likes the luminated second hand.

You are a candidate for Tough Solar with the auto backlight. :D

They do exist! Thank you. I guess I just overlooked them on Casio's website.

The magic of Casio's Gshock series can be summed up in four words.
Wave Ceptor/Tough Solar. :D

I just got back from Walmart, where I saw an analog/digital G-Shock. Oops. :o It was a dark purple plastic, both the case and strap ... but that didn't look as bad as it probably sounds; it actually looked kind of nice. I also saw Sharpfingers, in bubble packs in the hunting section (not at the knife counter).

I have one of those! It also has yellow buttons & lettering, and is in the model DW-9050 series.
Oops, myself, as I just read where the one that you saw is analog/digital, where mine is all digital...(But mine is still a dark purple, with a purple "resin" band...My pimpin' watch.:D.).
