I saw an interesting Uncle Henry stockman last weekend. A friend had an 897UH, same as about a half dozen that have gone through my fingers, but on this one, it had a plus next to the model number, denoting stainless steel I believe, AND, what looked like rough stampings of either geese or ducks. This stamp looked like it was "behind" the tang stamp. He didn't have a box or any paperwork for the knife. It was not old, he had gotten it from a friends father that had passed away. I'm not a Schrade collector, I only have one Schrade knife, an 895+ made before the company folded, possibly made by Camillus I've read? Anyway, I like to learn as much as I can about pocket knives. There were no Ducks Unlimited stamps on the knife that I could see.

I like the 897Uh pattern and EDC one. I have several dozen in my collection, but never seen one with waterfowl stamped on the tang. We might have a better idea if we could actually see the stamp.

He's a member here, I'll ask him if he wants to post a pic. My cellphone more than likely wouldn't've picked up the etch, or else I'd have taken them at his house.

.....any marks across the tang usually indicate a 'second'...perhaps a cutler was being creative?...rather than the usual xxx...or tang 'rubout' which looks even worse as it removes its birthright which is even more important in these days of inferior clones....I would still prefer a genuine Schrade 'second' any day to one of those other "things" <and 'yes' I have used both unfortunately>...........my first thought was 'silent' meant it had etch on blade rather than tang which would have been entirely possible..a picture is worth a ................Hoo Roo.
