Just wondering what the weight on the Gelbu Specials is. Both 18" and 21" versions don't have their weight listed on the website. Also would like to know the thickness of the Kobra blades due to the same issue. Anyone who has one of these models I'd love to see some pics. Thanks! -Will

I don't have either of these, but I do have a friendly suggestion to do a couple searches on this forum for "Gelbu" and "Kobra" and you will find examples on various Deals of the Days from the past (the photos might not be working, but the specs should be listed). Also, the "Links Library" Sticky thread might have reviews for these.

My 18" Gelbu Spl. stick tang weighs 21 oz. 31.5 oz. with sheath. Of the 10 or so HI kukris that I have this Gelbu is my favorite for speed and balance.

Pala once mentioned that if he's given the choice to issue Gurkhas Khukuri to bring to the field, it would be Gelbu Special.

Who's there to argue with someone who served the Assam Rifles?

The hollow-forged blade is hard to resist.

Tom F has a great review of his Gelbu Special that makes mention of Pala's statement. Tom compares it to a the happy medium between his 20" Sirupate and 15" Ang Khola. Are there others who agree with his assessment? Also Yangdu described the Chitlangi in very much the same way. Which of these two models would you choose as your do everythig khukuri and why?

The Chotlangi is a larger (and more decorative) blade than the Gelbu, and makes a better all-purpose blade.

But see my response in your other thread of what I'd pick ;)

Chitlangi's are larger Gelbu's? They seem about the same. What is the weight difference? What makes the Chitlangi a "better all-purpose blade"?

The legends goes by saying once the wrath of Chitty-chitty bang bang unleashed, it will turn backyard vines into a golf course.:p

Remember Pala is an ex serviceman and IMVHO he mentioned that words as a fighter :)

Aunt Yangdu is a lady and of course she talks as a lady :)

And a giant among us might say that 21" AK is his best khuk because a 25" AK is a bit heavy for him :D

I have a 18" GS.
I also have 15" BAS, 15" Siru, 18" WW2, 21" Siru, 21" Chit etc in between of 15" to 21".
And IMVHO Pala has a +1 point in his words

Shamrock, IMHO a 21" GS will be lighter than a 21" Chit or a 21" Siru ;)
It was mentioned in one of old thread that a 21" GS made by Sher weighted 30oz (i.e. 1.8lb or 0.8kg).
Anyhow when we talk about weight, actually it depends very much on which Kami who makes the Khuk

Truth be told. Sher the Tiger's version will be a lot heavier than say Kumar's.
Unless the Kami is Bura. Mohd and him played a lot of telepathic game and most of Mohd's model are agile and right to his size!

If we will ask for a current Kami to make a Gelbu for you? Mine was made by Dil.

This is my personal Favorite Khukuri because of the weight & length

The two 18" Gelbu Specials I have are likewise among my favorites for speed. The sirupatis do nothing for me but the GSs feel right.

DirtiePaulie, where did you get that kydex sheath?

3 months? Now that's a long wait. How much did that sweet sheath cost you? They're only priced up to an 11.9 inch blade on the Okuden site. Your Gelbu must have a bigger blade than that?
