Since I gave my chiruwa away and have been busy moving home and travelling with work I've not had the opportunity to use my knives - some of which I hae not even tested yet. This all changed last night:

I had a bunch of mates around for a lads night in and we were in the garden enjoying the evening sun when we got onto the subject of khukuri's. I nipped upstairs and returned with my 21" Sher GS. I have not tested this blade yet and I have a fence post in my back garden doing nothing. I positioned the post and procedded to chop at it. This blade is the fiercest I have used and the most comfortable to handle - light as a feather with it's deep fullers and sharper than I could ever get it with the Sher modified edge. I actually fear this knife and out of all my khuk's it has become my favourite. The balance, accuracy, feel and overall look of this khuk are outstanding and I would highly recommend those that don't own a GS to get one as soon as possible. They are fantastic and now I see what Pala means about them being the ideal overall khuk.

ps - 4X4 thick fence post = 10 or so chops to each corner

Those GS models are great! I have an 18" GS by Kesar that I love for all those same reasons. Is is fast and mean as a snake. I must get a Sher 21 GS and see how I love that one!:D

Brendan:

I also just got a 21" GS (by Exclamation Mark Kami) and was interested to read your ten-chop result on that 4x4. Mine has been neither tested nor sharpened, since I am about to ship it off to Terry Sisco for a left-handed scabbard. It didn't come too sharp, but that is just as well since he will have to be handling it.

This GS is only a little lighter than my 18" AK, but it tracks through the air better during a big swing due to its length. Don't know that I would call it light as a feather, but it certainly manuvers well. Anyway, I was glad to see you were able to whack down a fencepost since I have some major chopping tasks in mind for the GS.

The GS seems to retain enough weight to be a useful tool while incorporating some offensive capability with its length and balance. I can see what Pala bases his opinion on when he says this is the best general purpose khuk, but it would be interesting to watch a Gurka (rumored to be fairly short folks) draw a 21-incher from a behind-the-hip carry. After trying that slowly a few times I abandoned the idea since it seemed like a good way to slice off half a haunch. Hence the left-handed scabbard (I'm a lefty).

Good report. I may have a reason now to order a GS. Wife has taken a real shine to the "Brendan" WWII that goes everywhere I do. That heavy handle makes it balance enough for her to swing it. Told me Sunday that she 'needed' to "borrow" the big blade for a day or two. Still haven't gotten it back. She is sorta short, so she holds it with two hands & wails away with it. I sure am lonesome without that knife!!!!

Glad to know the khuk has found a nice home. It spoke to me once but I didn't like what it said.

The 21" GS is my favorite too! Just seems to all come together in this one!:D The 18" models are nice too!
