Gelbu Special or Malla? Who has both?

I'm looking for a smaller Khuk, and I like the looks of both the Gelbu Special and the Malla style.

Length seems about equal
weight seems about equal (more or less)

who likes what and why?

Do you have any pics? I've found that a different view of the Khuks helps.

thanks...

Actually I have two Mallas. It took me awhile to figure out how I did that and realized I got one in a raffle or something. :D
The GS is more a user and the Malla more a weapon. Take your choice based on that.

Really like them both. The Malla being an "older" design has more bend to the blade than the Gelbu. The Malla spine is also flat which really doesn't affect anything other than asthetics. Both will hack like crazy. The GS is probably the better all around khuk of the two. Giv'em both a try! :D

I like them both and would like to eventually get an example of each. However, I really have a desire for a Malla because of the description on the website. I was an archeologist (specialized in the ceramics of the Spanish Colonial period of the Southwest) before I got into education. So when I saw the description and it mentioned archeology, it caught my eye. Since then I have talked with some of the forumites, especially T1MPANI, and their enthusiasum for the Malla is impressive. One of these days. :)

Think about the Chitlangi also. I bought one to send to a young man in the 506th PIR in Korea (same unit from Band of Brothers fame). I am woodchucking the handle and it's almost ready. The more I handle it the more I like it...and I loved it the first time I held it. Sher made it (first blade I've seen by Sher) and it's fast as lightning...18" and 18 ounces. Beautiful work and a real weapon.

So basically, your suggestions are to buy both:D

I don't think that's in the cards (credit cards that is..) at the moment, but perhaps there's a special gelbu or malla coming up...

If there is, everyone stay away!:D

I have a 21" GS and 18" Sirupati, and the blade profile of both is nearly identical - one is just smaller than the other. The only way you can tell which type they are is the GS has an enclosed Cho and the Siru's is open. Therefore the GS type blade appears that it would be stronger to some degree.

Haven't dealt with a Malla, but it also has an open Cho, so for heavier tasks you might be better off with the GS.
