Hello, fisibobale. Welcome to the HI forum.

The following thread from a couple of years ago might be helpful:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/766515-Gelbu-special-vs-Sirupate#post8554730

You can find other threads on the subject by entering Gelbu Special in the search box near the upper right hand corner of this screen, then click on the question mark. Many of those threads will be sales postings, but you can find substantial discussion among them if you have the time and patience.

As for availability, best thing is to send an email to Yangdu. You can tell her your preferences, how you expect to use the knife, how big you are (that's a major consideration in choosing length and weight of a khukuri), and what she might advise. I suggest that you first read the above thread and others.

I have a nice one by Rakjumar. A well made knife. I dont think it is too long. It is a good all around big knife half weapon/half utility. It does not excel in chopping up wood as well as the bigger knives.

Guten abend:)

Ok, now i have exhausted my German:D
The big gelbu is going to be a great slasher:) Oddly, its one of the few models I've never owned...probaly need to get on that;)

Welcome to the forum, friend:)

The Gelbu was my first Khukri years ago. It made a great all-round knife light and fast but still capable of chopping duty. 12 years later its still a favorite of mine.

Herzlich wilkommen!
Ich lebte 6 Jahre in Deutschland. Meine Frau ist aus Stuttgart.

The Gelbu Special is a model that would realy like to have. My advice is to get the model that calls to you the most. I don't think a 21" inch Gelbu Special is the most versitile Khukuri, but it would be an incredibly impressive blade that is pure weapon.

Thank you for your advices:)
So the gs 21" seems to be exactly what i am looking for :) because i dont want a heavy duty chopper. I want a khukuri which is able to cut down small trees fx: 3" in a single strike. Because thats a lot more fun :))

Welcome fisibobale,

The Gelbu special is Named for Auntie Yangdu's brother Gelbu.
Their father, Kami Sherpa (the owner of H.I.) has said if he were to outfit a troop of Ghurkas, the Gelbu is what he supply them with.
It is pretty much all fighting khukuri. It is not warranted for chopping wood.

Anything that can cut down 3" trees in one strike is a heavy duty chopper.

so the gbs is more a fighting knife and not for cutting wood?

Yes, it is a fighting blade style and is not a "field" usage khukuri. It will not be covered under warranty if used to chop wood.
Please take time to read the stickies at the top of the forum, especially the warranty and safety threads.
