Gels vs. waxes for hair

Been using Aveda Shaping Wax for short hair. Holds decently well, but by the end of the day, no hold. Also not as pliable as I would like

Thinking of these and want comments

Jack Black Hair Gel
Aveda Pureformance Grooming Clay
Bumble and Bumble Sumo Tech (not the shiny one but the matte finish)

I dont know what a wax or clay or paste does vs. a gel. Many gels before left me with helmet head but they say that the Jack Black does not. I went into a place and got a sample of the other two and the Bumble and Bumble was good, but it is a wax. hard to apply and the hair feels coated, but it does have a great hold.

What hair?

I'm a Dapper Dan man, the pleasing aroma is part of the appeal!

I have a crew cut type haircut, I don't use any of those. I hate the idea of putting goop in my hair to hold it in place. Pomade maybe?

I got so sick of hair gel I started getting a short haircut that doesn't require it.

My brother was rather fond of mousse for some time.

I used to use stuff called Got To Be Glued and now i use the Axe stuff that came out its like a pomade its pretty pliable throughout the day. But if you want a strong hold then get the got to be glued stuff. Or if your more into gel than glue type stuff then check out LA Looks gel. works great for me :)

This time last year my hair was a military cut. Now my bangs are past shoulder length. The one hair care product that has proven time and again to be practical, comfortable and cost effective has been Got2B's promade, Got2B Defiant. Unlike Mousse and Gel it adds softness AND shape at the same time and lasts until the next time you wash your hair. I justify my hair to everyone by saying it gives the girls something to hang on to, but considering the high intensity of high desert sun and extreme dryness that is typical of my environment, it's super easy to maintain and comfortable.

I think the guys in Whine and Cheese would have lots of useful advice on this topic. Personally, I (cough cough) used mousse for a while (I was undercover, OK?) and found it pretty good. The guys at the local barbers are using some sort of wax now (so I hear). Can you get one with some sort of peach smell or something that would drive the gals wild?

Where's the Men's part forum UffDa? :D

Back to the topic, When working on cars and trucks, I try to wear a hat to keep the Grease, Wax and Oil out of my hair and shower with a good degreaser after the work to make sure the hat did it's job. :D
