Hi guys, recently I started collecting knives. Right now I only have a Delica FFG and a leek. Now I want a big beefy knife. Kershawguy has great deals on the 0200 ($95) and the 0550 Gen 1 ($120). I'm torn between these knives. I like the milled G10, manual flipper, and overall look and ergos of the zt 0200, but I like the s35vn and framelock of the 0550. I also like that it does not have a recurve (and that fact that it is a hinderer design, if it had orange scales I would like the look of it 100 times better). However, I've heard there were detent issues with the gen 1, which worries me. I want something that can open fast because I'm tired of the lockback on the Delica, you have to flick it hard to get the blade out. I also don't really like the look of the scales on the 0550 and that would cost another $65 to get hinderer scales. Size for either is not an issue. What would you recommend I do? I'm a college student so this is the only knife I'll be getting for a while.

Id say 200 because you dont have to do anything with it but enjoy it!

Now if you decide the 550 though, the detent "issue" isn't really an issue at all. Mine is smooth and quick with about the perfect amount of detent. Many others who hang out over here and know these knives inside out also have very little if any problems with them also. Instead of getting a hinderer scale try getting one from rival or kryptoglow here on the forums and you will save about a $20. Hope his helps and welcome to wonderful world of ZT!

I like the 0550 more between those two. The ergos on it feel more comfortable to me, and it is much more comfortable to carry. As for the detent issue, if you are referring to it being very strong, that really has more to do with how you hold it. If you have a finger pressing against the lockbar, that will make it difficult to open. Shift your finger a bit so it isn't adding pressure to the lock, and the 0550 is phenomenally smooth.

Good to know about the 0550, do you both have Gen 1's?

I have a Gen 2 0550. Aside from the pocket clip (deep-carry on Gen 2 vs. regular on Gen 1), I think they're the same. The lockbar cutout might be another difference, but I vaguely recall seeing seeing some Gen 1's with the cutout on the outside. I'd give you even odds on my mind playing tricks on me though.

I have a Gen 2, and I've been carrying it more than my other ZTs ever since I cut out a little sharpening choil. That's saying a lot, especially since I used to carry my 0400 or 0200 pretty much all the time.

Yes mine is a gen one. Love it. It has been my most carried zt recently.

0550 for edc...I'd consider a Gen 2 blem from Dave. I have one in my pocket right now.

I have a gen 2 0550 from kershawguy and an 0200KW. I had the 0200 first and the 0550 has replaced it as edc for work and weekends. Not that you wouldn't be happy with an 0200...it is a beast and very comfortable to hold. It's just the 0550 carries better.

Ended up finding a Gen 2 Blem from Kershaw guy for $130 so I went for it. I figured if I got the 0200 I would still want the 0566 when it comes out later this year. I think the 0550 satisfies the crazy beefiness of the 0200 and has the awesome hinderer design so I can hold off on the 0566. Can't wait to order some LSCF scales for it :)

I'm currently carrying my 0550. I can truthfully say that I don't think that it will replaced anytime soon as my EDC. It is a Gen 1 and has no issues.
