Gen 2 0550: why the outie cutout?

I understand the change in clip design from gen 1 to gen 2, but why was the lockbar cutout changed? Did it make it easier to tune the lock tension during fitting? I appreciate that it makes the knife slightly easier to clean, though the original style isn't exactly difficult to clean.

I have both gen 1 and 2 and have less issue with sticky lock and overly tough lock bar on the gen 2. But, it could be just the difference between these particular knives.

I am wondering if they did for potential future model variations. For example if they wanted to do a bolstered deluxe version. Maybe not but I can dream can't I.

You mean more like the Benchmade 755 MPR, where it's still a framelock? I can see that as a reason to change the design.

I should point out that I have no issue with the design. The Gen 2 has a more distinctive (and possibly distinguished) look than the Gen 1 because of it.
