Does anybody have any experiance with this knife, It looks great and I have B-Day money burning a hole in my pocket, Please help me spend it.:D

Well, I think you should always buy what has some POP to your eye, then if it turns out bad you'll still have something you like.

That Gen 5 should appeal to a lot of people, as it has beautiful lines and is also an historic knife. Should have some legs. I'll probably get one of the higher end models eventually, myself.

They look real good.

I bought this year's pair - the 005GYS and 005RWS. The grey charcoal birch handled one with 420HC steel is fine - I like it's handle's feel better than the rosewood one, which has some raised grooves. The rosewood one has better steel - 154CM - but it's vertical carry wet-molded leather sheath is not as useful, to me, as the horizontal carry nylon that accompanies the charcoal one. Mixed bag, huh? Either is great... both is confusing!

I find them perfect for whittling, light 'bushcraft'-ing, and a fantastic day-hiker. Yeah, I used the charcoal one the most around the house - opening boxes - utility work. I believe it was $50, the rosewood was $78 - plus s/h. I initially wanted the $300 MSRP original Gen5 '07 005LE version - but, operationally, the rosewood unit I have is identical. It wouldn't do for me to own a 'collector's' knife... I'd just use it! they haven't had their edges retouched - yet -and still shave. Very useful size... I may have to sand away those ridges on the rosewood - I really don't like them.

To Stainz: are you sure the rosewood handled knife has it's blade made from 154CM ?

I ask you this because i have personally handled some of these that had CPM154 etched on them,

According to the '07 Buck Dealer catalog pg 37, the 005LE is 154CM - likewise, according to the '08 Buck Dealer catalog pg 13, the 005RWS is 154CM. Now, on my 005RWS, on the blade's back... under the Bos heat treat stamp it clearly states:

CPM154! So, I have never physically held an 005LE - I don't know about them - but you are correct about the 005RWS. Well, I am not so observant, it seems. It is shiney - and sharp! Thanks for pointing that error out.
