Hey guys , I received a knife I bought off the exchange today. It's a cold steel medium voyager with a fully serrated edge and I was very suprised because it's the older style with the plastic clip. This wasn't specified in the thread it just said " carried for a week" and I assumed it was the newer style . My question is if these older voyagers are any good and if $35 was fair for this variation? Also when where these ones produced ? At first I was pissed but now I'm starting to think it's kinda cool since it's an almost mint vintage cold steel ! What do you guys think ?

That's just an early Voyager with the molded clip. These were all made in Japan (mid nineties to mid 2000's?) and they're high quality through and through. I have an early 4" tanto, it's a well made knife. They are AUS8-A FYI. Also $35 for that condition is a good price.

About 2 weeks ago I cleaned, oiled and sharpened my friend's first gen voyager (large plain edge). I think it's a pretty well built knife.

Really Starting to like this knife , think I'll get s 2011 voyager when they come out !!! Will the sharpmaker be good for touching up the cold steel serrations ?

I know this is almost a year later but I have been carrying this great little knive a bit lately and I typed in the patent number and it's a spyderco patent for the clip !!! Just thought that was pretty cool !!

I scored an XL Tanto Voyager at a gunshow for $28 two weeks ago. If there was ever a knife that needs a thumb plate to wave it out of the pocket, it's this series. WHY DIDN'T THEY PUT ONE ON THERE?!

Thanks for the update, I love it when people come back later and report long-term! I've got a few of the older ones as well, and enjoy them. Nice catch on the patent. When CS "borrows" a design, they often pay for it, a fact often overlooked by folks.

Glad you still like it!

The older Voyagers were great knives and are somewhat sought after. I had one with the plastic clip. I ended up breaking the clip off and they sent me a newer style with the metal clip when I sent it in for repair. I used them both very hard to the point of what most people would consider extremely abusive and they took everything I threw at them with flying colors. The current gen Voyages are just plain outstanding knives for the money. They are everything the older ones were and more having even stronger locks!
