I want to go ahead and get rid of this coating. I don't, however, want to lose the logo. Is there a way to etch it into the metal or save just the laser etch? In total, I want to put new scales on it, find a decent kydex, strip it and stonewash it. I have already out a convexed edge on this beast and there is a huge difference.

While I don't know how to etch, and although I have none of the sheaths by the makers here on bladeforums, I have seen The 710, Godspeed Tactical, and Azwelke sheaths very highly praised here. I doubt you could go wrong with any of those makers. As for the handles, Tomars Kabars has micarta, if I remember correctly.

I am sure the logo's will stay on if you just strip it but they might disappear when you stone wash it.

Instead of stripping and stone washing the blade, I might just strip the part where it starts the grind.. I can't find the word to define it..

The blades look lightly stonewashed from the factory if you don't sand the coating off.

mrn8 suggested using PCB etchant which can be found at Radio Shack. I have used it a few times on the logo. After I think it is deep enough, I'll strip the coating and take some pictures.

It may be the gen 2. Gen 1 didn't have the extended pommel I believe. and came with an ambidextrous kydex sheath the way Gen 2 did. But the original Gen 2 had the old coating.

PCB etchant is awesome and will do exactly what you want.

Just apply it to the etched logos with a q tip. Let it sit in 1hr increments, then scrub it with a tooth brush while rinsing, dry it, and re-apply. I usually find the ideal depth to be a total of 7-8 hours of etching.

Is it okay if I e-mail you about this? Or have you posted a thread about it or something?
