I have a lot of great hunting knives including quite a few customs. Most are perfect for deer size game. I’m thinking about a smaller game knife. Here are some I'd like feedback on.

Gene Ingram #5 Drop Point: http://www.geocities.com/porchswings/moreknives.htm I have read lots of good things, but never handled one of his knives.

Bob Dozier K20 Canoe: http://www.dozierknives.com/ I have a custom toothpick that I’ve used to slice mushrooms only. I’ve heard good things about the K20 Canoe as a small game knife.

Lynn Griffith Patrolman: http://www.griffithknives.com/gallerybus1.html I have one in unused condition. I like the size, shape, and etc. I just haven’t quite made up my mind about the feel yet.

Camillus Knives Mini Talon: http://www.camillusknives.com/1mainframe.htm I have two of the full size Talons in talonite. A friend borrowed one to dress out a hog. He went on and on about how sharp it was and how sharp it stayed. Great knives, but maybe a mite large for squirrels and such.

Rob Simonich Cetan Series: http://www.simonichknives.com/gallery.htm I have his smallest Cetan in unused condition I bought shortly before his death. It feels like it could be a perfect little packing and using knife. I just haven’t brought myself to use it yet.

Bob Doggett Fillet Knife: Here is his website http://www.doggettcustomknives.com/index.htm Apparently, he doesn’t make the fillet knife any more. I have one of them and have used it quite a bit. Overall, I like it.

Scott Cook Knife: http://www.scottcookknives.com/hunters.htm I have a large Owyhee Hunter that I really like. It turned me into a Scott Cook fan. I haven't held one, but I'm wondering about small Owyhee Hunter.

Mark Nevling Burr Oak Knives Damascus Hunter: Couldn’t find a website, but I have the knife. A beautiful little knife I haven’t brought myself to use yet. It feels good and could be a great user, but it is too pretty to get yucky...

Bark River Knife & Tool Mountaineer II: http://www.barkriverknifetool.com/custom/index.html These would be at or near the upper size limit.

Any thoughts on the above knives or recommendations for any others?

I have a Gene Ingram hunter with D-2 & scalloped Micarta handle. Workmanship is as good as it gets. What I like most is that the blade is ground thin and is like a scapel! Easy to maintain and sharpen. Sheath was also flawless. You can't go wrong with his work.
I also have his Bushlight with 0-1 and it is a keeper! Cuts like you wouldn't believe.

I have two Gene Ingrams. Very good knives. I don't think you would go wrong with one. I heartily recommend them.

Jagged,
I would recomend that you get the Dozier Canoe. It is a thiner blade stock than the toothpick and will cut much better. I think you will like it alot.

Gene Ingram knives are hard to beat. When you factor in their price, I think you would consider them a bargain too. They are cheaper then the Talonite factory knives, cheaper then the Dozier and finished better IMHO. All the knives are good ones but, I think the Ingram hits the sweet spot for cost and quality.

I forgot to mention that you may want to talk to Mr. Ingram directly. That's what I did and he was very agreeable to making custom modifications to meet my specific needs. If I needed another working knife, his name is the one that jumps out at me from your list.

I also have two Hendrix models that are outstanding. You might want to consider add those to your list of knives in consideration. Email contact is non-existant but, a phone call is easy enough.

I have two Hendrix knives, a Dippold, a Lile, and an Irie that I forgot to mention. All very good knives, but a little bigger than for what I am looking.

I just bought the TTKK that is on Trace Rinaldi's website homepage. That Rob did the heat treat on it added to its appeal for me. I plan to use one of my Camillus Knives Talonite Talons based upon Rob's design to dress out deer this fall. Great design.

I think I will try to catch the next Mt. Vernon IL knifeshow and hopefully have a chance to check out a Dozier Canoe and an Ingram there. It sounds like they are both great knives.

I'm sure that Mr. Dozier deserves all the credit he gets, as well as the others that you asked about, however I have to go with Mr. Ingram in this. I have SEVERAL knives from Mr. Ingram (he has also made me several custom knives not in his usual lineup). He has never been anything but clear in his communications with me, and he has never been anything but gracious and swift to address any concerns I have. One thing I ESPECIALLY like with Mr. Ingram is that when he gives you a date for your knife being done IT'S DONE THAT DAY! This can be a problem with some custom makers (though I'm not aware that there's a problem with anyone you've mentioned and they all have great reputations). I just have experience with Mr. Ingram and he has worked out exceedingly well for me. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Anthony

I just received a great knife Gene Ingram did for me out S30V. I used it over the weekend during a steelhead fishing trip and I am impressed. I asked for something with a little longer blade than his drop point hunters, and he came up with a beauty - 5 inch puuko style blade and a generous Micarta handle. The finish is impecable and the sheath is excellent. I don't think you would be disappointed with an Ingram.

On the other hand, I have a few Doziers and they are hard to beat. Bob's D2 is about the best out there for edge holding and sharpness out of the box. His fit and finish is also excellent and he makes about the best Kydex sheaths you can find.

If you go with Gene or Bob you really can't go wrong.

I've got four of Gene's knives, and they are the berries. I like his fixed blades so much that I now carry an Ingram pocket knife, not my Seb. I only hate to mention how good his work is because others will become interested and increase the wait time. ;)

A Dozier model that I like even better is the Whittler. I have one, and I love it.

I am still going to recommend Dozier, but I will also recommend Gene Ingram.

I did not recall this name(Sorry Gene, never can), but Gene has been at the Arkansas show for the last couple of years. His booth is near mine. We started talking and everyone who said he was a nice guy is 100% correct. I would imagine he would be great to deal with. His knives are VERY nice, with clean, working lines. Really nice finish also!

So either way you would be good to go.

Tom
