I really like Ingram's fixed blads...materials, workmanship and look.

But what would be a comparable (quality for the price) in a folder...maybe even a lockback? Would like to keep it under $200.

First and foremost it needs to be usable as a knife should be. Nothing that's going to sit in a case and admired. Appearance is something I'm looking for, but it's secondary to function.

I had Gene make me two blades to a template drawing and brass cut out I did just so I could convert them into folders. You can probably find both in my homepage links. I remember putting them in there in one or both photo galleries. Called them Rice Beaters. Both were made into small frame locks. One was currently for sale. Not sure if its still available or not.

The other is in Chicago as someones favorite EDC so its not going anywhere. The first one though has been owned by at least three people now and maybe four.

Well, I checked and the second one is marked sold. But I'll bet Dirk or Mitch could tell you who had it if you just want an Ingram blade in a folder. Here is a pic of the first one in its new handle scales by Dirk, (Oupa) http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/oupa/image_gallery_details.php?knife=29

My partner Dirk/Oupa over at our forum in the KF traded me for it. He was the second owner and almost immediately after getting it he tweaked the handle scale and the ti side. I had green canvas micarta on it for a scale with ti liner underneath and had anodized the titanium and clip olive green to match when it was mine. He left the ti and removed the color and the micarta. Did a righteous job on it too using nothing but left over end cuts. Right before shipping it to him I switched the clip from my preferred tip up to tip down for him and made a new clip for it at his request so its set up for both where ever it got to.

I traded it away after building my new lockback pictured below. Its a Dozier SweetWater fixed blade reincarnated into a folder. Always wanted a Dozier folder so I made my own. :D

Thanks.

I really like the TA Davison's work, but that's just too nice (and spendy) for what I'm looking for. I'd be scared to use something that beautiful.

michelle9, The Ingram Knives are really nice blades. To get this quality in a folder, you will have to jump up to mid $3s. A Sebenza would be a real nice folder from CRK as far as production knives go. If you are willing to swing the $$$ get a Serron from DMKnives(David Mosier). These are exquisite knives($450+) meant to by used hard. Also, Rick Hinderer make the XM-18 for around $390 I believe. Any of these knives you will never have to replace. The reason for the pricing is, Titanium frame, hinged blade/handle and extra labor to design the lock. Good luck.
