Thought I'd show a couple of the knives some of the Scouts had made. If you missed the prior posts, we took a passle of Cub Scouts to Gene's shop where he showed them how to go from a piece of steel to a knife. Lot's of sparks and lots of fun! The whole month was focused on knives.

here is some end product

I NEED ME ONE-A THOSE!!

Beautiful, and the perfect shape, IMO. What a lucky bunch of scouts.

Fine looking knives! Lucky Cubs, I made my first knife at age 40 and it looks like dung compared to those. 'course, I didn't have Gene's help.

What lucky scouts. If I had made a knife that looked like that at that age I would be doing something else for a living besides inspecting buildings.

Gene, as a former scout leader thanks for doing what you did. It's hard to keep all of the guys interested and safe.

In all fairness, some of the Dad's are struggling. Luckily, we have a couple of Eagle scout age kids who have really gotten into it. They pretty quickly saw how nice Gene's sander with that little short diameter wheel was. However, one of them has made some really unusual handle shapes based on his hand holding some putty he was gripping... and the knife is more or less a personal match to his big hands. Another has hidden the brass pins by only drilling pretty shallow holes. All in all, some pretty creative stuff so far!

Hello Nathan,
The knives look good. Don't let the dads struggle too hard - get one of the scouts to show them how to do it.
Thanks again. We enjoyed having you all out here. We'll do it again next year. Tell the boys I said Hi and Be Safe.

Dwight, thank you. I enjoy working with scouts - boys & girls.

Gene, looks like you've got some competition coming up

Those are good looking knives. For a first try at knifemaking by those scouts I think they've done extremely well - be sure to let us see more of the finished knives.
