Not long ago, I bought a Gene Wiseman barlow on the secondary market. I loved it, right out of the gate. Fit and finish on mine is basically perfect. The action is wonderful. Further, Wiseman has a style in the blade design that is all his own.

Within a few days of owning the knife, I contacted Mr. Wiseman to ask if I could get my name in the queue to have another made. He responded promptly and professionally. As I contemplate my second Wiseman knife, I want to see what others have commissioned in the past in order to settle on the pattern and materials I'd like.

While there are a fair amount of photos out there, they seem scattered. After much searching, it seems there is no threaded dedicated to Gene Wiseman knifes and this surprises me.

So please let me start this one out. Here's the shadow barlow I've come to love. Please share your pictures and impressions of your Gene Wiseman knives.

I've had a few secondary also, and I'm currently waiting on my second knife from Gene. He's awesome to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone his way.

My first order with him was this Front Pocket Bowie Clip in Thunderstorm Kevlar

And here's a wip pic of my Sowbelly that will be done soon

I LOVE that sowbelly. I think that may be what I get, too. Is that natural canvas micarta?

I agree with you guys about Gene being really nice to deal with. I've also been happy with the knives I ordered from him.

This linerless Front Pocket with orange G10 and 1095 is a nice lightweight carry.

A full description and more pics can be found in this thread.

The big swedge looks really nice on that sheepfoot blade along with the Westinghouse micarta. For some reason the blades are oriented backwards and the nail nicks are on the wrong side, though.

:p:D

Mine has maroon linen micarta and also has no liners. I don't have a separate thread about this one. The first two pics show the color of the micarta better, while the third is a little clearer.

If you go to Gene's profile page and click on the 'Find latest started threads' link under his name it makes it easy to find his previous For Sale threads in the Exchange. He has also made a Saddlehorn pattern and a 4" Folding Hunter. That said, it wouldn't hurt asking him directly what different patterns he can make for you.

Dannyp, your Sowbelly is the reason I ordered one. It's just too good looking! I didn't realize until looking at yours that mine is indeed oriented opposite nail nick wise. I dunno if you specified your knife to be different or maybe mine is lol. Either way I don't see it being an issue.

I love the big swedge he put on the blades. I think it sets them off nicely.

Glad to help. Both of my knives are 'left handed'. I've never had an issue with any 'normal' production knives since they are all two handed either way. I just figure that if I'm going to have a custom made knife, I might as well have it oriented properly for me.

Here's my Sowbelly that just came in! While I'm still trying to sell myself to carrying a two blade knife, this is one spectacular knife. I'm happy with everything about it!

Can you add some photos of the top down view and springs? You take great photos btw.

Wow that is a nice knife. I don't have a Wiseman yet, I need to change that soon. I've admired his barlows for awhile, love the look of the micarta bolster models. Father's day is coming up.....

You won't regret it, they are one of the best bang for your buck custom knives.

That looks really nice Kyle. That Westinghouse looks buttery smooth with that color. Nice addition!

Does Gene work with other materials, like bone or wood, or just micarta-like materials? His stuff looks awesome!

I've seen him do knives with bone, but I'm not sure about wood.
