I have a Buck General 120 and I'd like to get a new factory leather sheath with the plastic insert.

I have tried calling Buck several times, but I just sit in the queue hearing "you are the next caller" forever and never get through.

So does anyone here know if Buck still makes shealths for these models?

I would check on ebay there is a seller there selling them for 9.99.
free shipping.
Otherwise check out bucks website.
Good luck

Deep6, several of my more recent fixed blades came with a sheath that has a plastic inset that protects the leather and stitching from getting cut when the knife is reinserted into the sheath. Preston

Never saw a Buck 120 leather sheath with a plastic insert before. Interesting!

You may never see one...the 120 discontinued before Buck started to put the inserts in. The 120 I have has a rather flat sheath that wouldn't accept an insert.

Here's a pic of a 2002 119 w/insert taken out of the sheath. Preston

Just a quick pic of a 120 sheath with insert

OH, well I guess here's my mid-morning snack :foot: Hmmm needs a little salt. Thanks, Scott. Preston

Both those inserts look like the blade would still contact the stitching, especially if jammed in crooked/cock-eyed...

Your right about that Trax...didn't know that until I pulled it out to take the pic. Wasn't going to bring it up since I already had my daily quota of FIM:o.

Say, why aren't you at the Glen, you work corners, right? Preston

Seems to me the plastic would be more abrasive on the blade than the leather. The sheath does not apear to be protected from the blade. So what was the point in putting a plastic insert in a leather sheath. I would understand if the sheath is nylon.

He raised the price to $11.99

The blade shouldn't hit the stitching, there's a welt(strip of leather) stitched between the front and back sides of the sheath. If your knife has movement while sheathed, the cutting edge will rub against the welt. the stitching should lay at least an 1/8" or more away from the innermost edge of the welt. On this blurry shot, the 1/8" mark below the 2,is the start of the stitching, about 3/16" inward,is the inside edge of welt.
If you notice on older Buck sheaths, there are a lot of slits in the leather, opposite the stitching side, where careless people poke the tip through the sheath, particularly 119's & 120's.
