for christmas i ordered a custom buck 110: s30v blade, nickel bolsters, rivets, heritage walnut scales all came out to about $100.00. really excited to receive this knife but had some questions:

Has anyone had any problems (blade play, scratching etc.) with nickel bolsters?

Are the Nickel Bolsters Nickel Plated or Solid Nickel?

And any comments about the heritage walnut scales would be appreciated as well.

this is my first custom buck 110. just want to get some more info on the knife im ordering. thanks.

Hey Knivesngear,

Tell David you made a typo when you typed in your birthday.

As to your questions. Fit and Finish on Custom Shop 110's is outstanding. You needn't worry about that.

Nickel Silver bolsters are a solid alloy with a composed of nickel, copper, & zinc. This alloy was also called German Silver.

The walnut scale is a laminate wood product. It is extremely durable and makes for a quality handle.

Frankly, the CS110's are as fine a 110 as there is available unless you get into the Remer or Yellowhorse customs. I think it will make a fine Christmas present for a young man. I hope you enjoy it.

The Nickel Silver bolsters do scratch easily. Decide if you want the knife to be a show piece or a user. The NS bolsters will scratch if the knife is used even a little. If the knife is a user, don't mind the scratches. If it is for show, don't use it at all and keep it well protected so it won't scratch. This applies if you want the knife to be an "investment" piece - something you may wish to re-sell sometime later on, like when (and if) S30V becomes unavailable.

The brass and NS bolsters will both scratch fairly similarly - it seems to look more apparent on the NS due to the higher polish. The brass dulls quickly - and can tarnish. Flitz or Semichrome paste will return both to near new. All of mine are 'users', including my latest one, ordered 11/12, shipped 11/19, and received 11/30.

Ok, Buck 110 . Thanks . That rule may have been changed as there was 'some' discussion on it several years back . Don't want anyone to get in trouble . DM

Very cool knife you have there Jim. I'm going to have to order one with walnut for myself.
