"General concensus" on knife length?

I understand that in California, there is no legal limit on the blade length of a concealed folder, because there's nothing stated in the penal code. However, a friend of mine insists that there is some sort of "general concensus" on legal blade length (he said 3 inches), and that you can be arrested/prosecuted/whatever for concealing a knife greater than that length. This doesn't sound right to me. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

By the way, I'm new. Just starting to get into knives....all I have at the moment is a Kershaw D.W.O. that the aforementioned friend gave to me, though as soon as I get my next paycheck, I'm picking up an Endura.

Ha, ha. I guess Ferret is trying to recruit you into the Spyderco cult.

Anyways, knife laws vary form state to state (in America, at least). There is no concensus as to what blade length is acceptable. In fact, many states make no mention of particular blade lengths in their laws.

A good site to check out regarding state knife laws (and many other knife related things) is Bernard Levine's site... http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/links.htm And welcome to the forums!

Not only in the US:
§1: The LEO is always right
§2: Should it happen to be otherwise, then §1 is automatically applied
§3: Should the Boss be nearby, then the LEO is even more right.
§4: If it's the Boss himself, then he is MOST right
