General hatchet question

I haven't had a hatchet in a long time, and I've decided it's time to get one. I know there's got to be some out there that are of better quality than the ones they sell at Home Depot or in the camping section at Walmart. I also know there's got to be some cheaper than those extremely well made Swedish ones. I tend to think I know a fair amount about knives, but hatchets are outside my range. What do you folks say?

Wetterling is a step down in price from the Bruks axes significantly, but fairly close in performance.

Cold Steel has some, never tried them. I've heard very good things about American Tomahawk. Have you looked at kukris?

I've never thought Gransfors Bruks are that expensive! If that's the case I agree with Deputy Tom, Estwing is built to last a lifetime. Knives of Akaska has a nice Hatchet but again, it might be more than you want to spend. Good luck, Scott

Good topic. I had a customer in my store a while back talking about how great the "Colt" hatchet is. He had never held one, in fact he was checking out ours. But apparently it got a good write up somwhere and beat out the Gerbers, even. Now I have never repeated that because I'm skeptical about United Cutlery and have not seen the article.
It looks nice. Has a steep hollow grind. But it's super light because there's a chinsy fixed blade in the handle. Can't say I'm wild about it, but if someone else here could comment on the Colt Hatchet, I would appreciate the info.
