Is there a generic questions thread to post on instead of starting yet another thread to get an answer and have another dead thread?

I'm trying to find out if the SpydieChef has direct Ti on steel of if the framelock has something on the back for steel on steel? If it is Ti on steel does it hold up over the years of use as an EDC?

The answer is yes, it will hold up for a lifetime. Whether it's steel on steel or steel on ti, doesn't matter.

From what I can see, it is titanium on steel. Like J. Doyle says, it will likely outlast us.

Yeah it doesn't have a lockbar insert. If you want that from Spyderco and the same designer Marcin Slysz check out the Slysz Bowie or the Swayback. Both very nice Ti handled models but out of production so you will have to hunt for them.

Or if you're patient wait a bit longer for the Techno 3.

The swayback is a great knife. They do show up here in the for sale section if you are patient.

I was under the impression that steel will eventually wear the titanium. Otherwise why bother with steel or ceramic bits. In retrospect I should also have realized I don't see anyone complaining their knife lock has worn out.

Because they're largely marketing tricks.....better mousetraps. They're solutions looking for problems.

I’ve carried and used a SpydieChef most every day now for almost five years. I bought two when they were introduced just in case the first “self destructed” (Ti on Steel). After five years the back-up knife is still pristine/unused collecting dust in the closet and my daily EDC knife has worn only about 35-40%……think it’s gonna outlive me.

It is a great all purpose blade shape and carries very well with its flat profile and deep carry clip. I do enjoy mine even though it doesn't get much carry these days.

General forum is for general questions about knives. There is nothing wrong with posting a thread with a specific knife question, especially if one has used the search function first to determine if the same question has already been asked. But if I were asking a question specific to a Spyderco knife, I would post it in the Spyderco Forum, instead of General,
