I just recieved my new 15 Angkola and Im quite pleased with it. Being new to Kukuri knives there are a few questions I have. I went out into the woods today and put my new blade to work. I found it chops extremely well but when I placed a loop of nylon cord over the blade,no amount of effort could get the cord cut. Here are my questions 1 My AK15 is relatively dull is this normal?2How sharp do most of you make your kukuris and whats the best way to do this? 3 Isnt a razor sharp convex edge backed by a half inch of steel better than a thick strong but dull edge? Thanks in advance Hannibal

That khukuri chops well when it is quite dull but you'll need to get a decent edge on it for cutting and slicing. Check the Khukuri FAQ for expert advice on how to get your khukuri just as sharp as you might want it.

And welcome to the Cantina!!!!!!!

Thanks for report.

"VEGETARIAN".............
Indin word for lousy hunter.

From what I understand, they (the sweetbreads) go well with some Fava beans and a nice Chianti.

"1 My AK15 is relatively dull is this normal?"

Yes, however sharpness is a matter of opion.

"2 How sharp do most of you make your kukuris and whats the best way to do this?"

I stop when they can shave hair off someone else's arm. Check out Yvsa's link for how to. There was an interesting thread about using a diamond coated nail file to sharpen the khukuri.

" 3 Isnt a razor sharp convex edge backed by a half inch of steel better than a thick strong but dull edge?"

Yes, it is less likely to slip or deflect, smoother chop, and the khukuri can be used like a real knife.

Sharper is usually better. A sharp blade not only performs better but when used with common sense reduces the occurance of accidents via the fewer deflections and such previously mentioned
