Does anyone have any experience or recommendations with the use of Neverdull and 01? I've only ever used it on brass---many many tiny circles for hours on end aboard my first ship. I'm not against patina but I'm afraid my CDO (same as OCD but in alphabetical order like it should be :) ) will win out. Goes without saying that I would mask off the handle if I were to go this route.

My second question is in regards to mineral oil application. Should I literally soak them in it or more of a sponge bath? Handle and blade?

Thank you all for your input and entertaining my novice questions.

Kenny, I was told to soak handles in mineral oil for about 15 minutes for the wooden ones. This is what I did. I never used the polish you cited. I've used Flitz in the tube. The oil soak will probably be an annual thing with wipe downs after use. If I get caught in the rain for extended periods and it gets really wet, I might soak again after it dries.

I use Simichrome on my blades and it seems ok with it. I've stopped polishing them though cause I like the protection and look of a natural patina.

As for the handles, I usually use my finger to spread mineral oil around and let it sit for a minute. After I gently wipe off the excess and put them away. So far everything has been looking good and no problems.

I like leaving the patina on my Bushboot but with some of my other blades I have used Flitz with good results. I do wipe the whole knife down with mineral oil that I got from a restaurant supply store. Some people like to use Renaisance Wax on their blades to protect them but I haven't tried that yet. My Fiddle Back gets used a lot like Andy intended it to be! Use your knife a let the patina tell the story of how you have used it.
