Trying to decide between the following:
- Blind Horse Woodsman Pro Scandi Grind
- Blind Horse Woodsman Pro Saber Grind
- Blind Horse Bushcrafter Scandi Grind
- Blind Horse Bushcrafter Flat Grind
- Fallkniven F1
- Spyderco Bushcraft

I just want it for general use around the camp, food prep, feather sticks, cutting the usual
paracord, rope, minor woodwork, etc.
All opinions welcome.
Thanks,
Lenny

The Spyderco Bushcraft is the most comfortable knife I've ever held in my hand. I like the Fallkniven too, but the Spyderco is in a class by itself. The O1 steel is not stainless, though. You'll need to keep it dried and oiled after use.

I've heard this many times about the Spyderco.
Has anybody used more than one of these knives.
I'd like to get some side by side comparisons if possible.
Also, what's the deal with sharpening Scandis?
Do you put a secondary V bevel on them or just lay them down on a stone and grind away?
Lenny

I'm not familiar with Blind Horse's knives but the F1 is a winner.
The Spyderco is a great knife but may be bulkier than you need.

Just for fun, bring an ordinary Mora with you and see how that does. :)

You can put a secondary bevel on them if you wanted, but if you don't they're extremely easy to resharpen via a stone

Yeah, I kind of thought that.
But if you sharpen the edge on a stone, aren't you removing a ton of metal along that wide bevel?

Unless you plan on doing a lot of woodworking, you don't need to sharpen the scandinavian grind as if it were a carpenter's tool.
Put a narrow secondary bevel on it for edge strength and you won't need to do much sharpening anyway.

The Blindhorse knives are excellent, and comfy in hand too. Probably heavier than the F1. You can't go wrong with either.

Might wanna consider the Boker Bushcrafter as well. It's like $50 made from 440C. I hear Boker 440C rules.

Good point Esav.
I don't even have a normal stone to sharpen a Scandi on anyway, just the Edge Pro and Sharpmaker.
What I really need to know are the advantages/disadvantages between Scandi and Flat grind.
Anybody?

OK, I've narrowed it down to the following 3, along with their strong points:
Blind Horse Woodcrafter Scandi from Canteen Shop- American made, handle has gotten praise for comfort
Fallkniven- proven design, least expensive
Spyderco Bushcraft- great handle comfort, typical Spyderco excellent fit and finish

All things being equal, I'd opt for the American made knife every time.
But I'd still like to hear your choice and reasoning for which to pick.
Thanks all,
Lenny

I would go for the Blind Horse, I have gotten to handle their products at various gun shows in Ohio, all of them were excellent quality and designed well. They are simple and no frills but nice all the same. Plus they are a small operation and made in the USA. I will pick one up to keep next time I feel like buying another fixed blade.

I have an F1, its nice, but a bit overkill for me when I go woods walking, seems like it would make a great survival knife though. The leather sheath is great quality and I do love it, but if I had to buy it again I would get the kydex so I wouldn't worry about getting the leather wet.

OK, I wanted a good reason to buy the Blind Horse, and you gave it to me BJE
What do you mean when you say the F1 is overkill?
