General question about case knives.

After years of collecting strider and chris reeve knives, my collection is taking on a new path. I love the look of the case trapper lock. But how is case quality? Are they on par with say swiss army? Thanks for the help guys.

All of my Cases are uneavenly finished, the worst being my Russlock. They are sanded smooth by hand after assembly and the final shape is way different on each side. Also the back spring doesn't sit flush with the spine on my slimline trapper. It's odd though because that's the only one with no blade play.

When I compare them to my Vics it's no contest. Vics don't need to be sanded because all the parts are cut to fit right in the first place. All my Vics are perfect. Vics aren't as flashy though.

I don't know how the trapper lock is but the russlock is bad. Basically a liner lock on a slipjoint (why?). The lock bar doesn't touch the tang causing virtical play to go along with the massive side to side play. Quality, not really. Too bad they look so good in pics because the F&F is pretty poor.

I don't think you would be happy going from a Sebbie to a Case.

Case is a good knife, but not only Case, many knives do not equal the quality of Victorinox. (SAK);)

For the life of me i dont know how vic does it for the money. I have a red alox farmer with sebenza type fit and finish, and it was only 20.00. I was so hopeing to hear that case knives were on par with vic.

Go ahead and purchase the Case Trapper, if you like it. I have several Case knives, they are good knives. Very few, if any knife companies, can assemble a knife with so many parts that will perform almost daily for generations as Victorinox.

Case is nice, and there are a lot of case collectors out there. Ive never had an issue with case. The case Finn is simply beautiful (fixed blade). But case is going to cost you a little more. Your more likely going to get more for an old case as opposed to an old sak even though the sak probably held up a little better. My thought anyway. I prefer sak vics over case folders.

I made a similar switch a few years ago and have had great luck with the 6 or 7 Cases I have purchased. The only model I had a problem with was the Trapperlock. I have generally stayed within the CV line.
