General rant with a wrapping question mixed in

Another newbie. Just received a RC-4. Thrilled to say the least.

I generally surf without reply as I have nothing of value to input. I work in Law Enforcement, hunt a ton, as well as hike and backpack without killing things occassionally. Take lots of pics either way.

But there is almost always a weapon somewhere handy, and there damn sure if a blade near. I don't live in fear or carry concealed off duty daily. Usually a firearm in the vehicle, on my horse, or somewhere near, but there is ALWAYS a blade with me. I cannot see how people deal with daily life without a blade in their pocket or handy.

I saw another post about blade length, laws, CCW's etc. Really makes me sick. As a Law Enforcement guy, I honestly could care less if your blade is 2 3/4" or 3 1/4. Or 4" for that matter. Mind you I am federal not municiple or state, but either way, keep it in your pocket and we will never have a problem. How many people are being murdered with EDC's?? Guess that's why I will not go back to the East Coast, lest I get "hooked up" for my knife being too big. I will stay out West, carry my handgun exposed, shoot from my truck at targets of opportunity(not big game), not wear orange, and enjoy life like it is supposed to be.

On to the question. It is only my opinion, but blade people are a bit different. Some are outdoorsy, lots aren't. Lots of military and former military as well. I want to know where everyone pics up their blade savyiness?

I would like to know: Where I can learn and educate myself on paracord, handle wrapping, and specific knots used to finish the wrap.

PLEASE: I guess in re-reading the whole thing, I was typing while being upset over laws, eastern seaboard states, what this country has come to and is continuing to come to, laws, nonsense, et al. I am pretty normal guy. Don't have Short Guy Syndrome, abuse my authority, get worked up over petty BS regarding laws(you breaking them), litter, drink daily, or speed.

That's my way of saying Hello, I like my new knife, I am going to buy more, support your Country, small businesses, and Buy American. I want a HEST when the come out, and if anyone can find it in their heart to tell me how to wrap an Izula or HEST with paracord so I can look Highspeed I would appreciate it.

Jesse, first off welcome to the RAT family. Personally, I picked up most of my knife savvy from my father and more my grandfather. It was always very important in my family that you know how to use a firearm and a blade from the moment you can pick one up. Now I know that this is not usually the case these days and most people aren't brought up this way. For everyone else, resources like these forums are invaluable. There is so much information you can learn here, particularly in the RAT and Wilderness&Survival sections, you'll never run out of stuff to read. I have learned a ton of stuff here. We have threads here on everything from making and modifying your bushcraft or other woods knife, to how to use them to set up figure 4's and different cuts to be used for different needs. For other resources, hit the local Barnes & Noble or Borders. There are a lot of good books out there for knife and outdoors nuts. Also, there are a number of videos available for people like Marty Simon that can show you how to do things if you're a better visual learner. Above all, practice will make the difference. Everything is great in theory, but practice will show you your strong points and weak points. ALWAYS, if you have a question, ask it. None of us consider any question a stupid one. We all started somewhere and the only way to get knowledge is to find it or ask for it. If you see something that someone has done with or to their knife and you want to know how, shoot them a Private Message or ask them in a new thread. All of us are happy to pass on knowledge. Have fun brother.

Welcome to BF and congrats on getting your RC-4!!

This thread shows some of our cord wraps on Izulas. May be useful...

This page shows how to cord wrap a handle., there are about a million different ways to do it but I think this will get ya started.

check this out for some really cool examples of what can be done with paracord.

also a youtube search of "paracord" comes up with some pretty useful tutorials and what-not.

Yeah, I live on the east coast, it's a shitter for sure. It's nice to know that you are out there. You have the same basic idea that I have, I don't give a damn what someone carries, I care about what they do with it. If they are waving it in my face at an ATM, I have a problem with that. :D

Hey! The whole east coast isn't like that!
In FL we can carry anything concealed with a permit, and basicalyl any size knife without one so long as it's worn openly.

Welcome to the boards, BTW.

Hasn't there been some controversy about that in the past few years? I know the old distinction between a CHL and a CWP, have you heard anything about this? Some people were toting around Microtech Autos and whatnot and some people, Floridians, were saying, "Not so fast..."

I honestly don't know, I thought under the old conventional wisdom about Florida's CWP that it was the way it should be.
