A friend was asking about ideas for a gift for his older brother. He wants something in the 3-4" range, folding and preferably natural materials instead of G10 or other commonly used synthetics. He was keen on a pocket clip too, so many traditional styles might not be applicable. Before he told me his price range, I was going to suggest an inlay Sebenza, but he doesn't have $4-500 to drop on his brother at this point.

I consider myself somewhat acquainted with the knife market, but couldn't come up with anything. I can suggest great knives all day that use G10 and the like, but nothing comes to mind within the constraints of budget ($70) and natural materials.

Don't be overly constrained by the natural thing, but do suggest things that have an air of dignity over the extremely modern construction typically featuring synthetics.

I appreciate the help, and hope everyone has a great weekend!

You may like the CRKT M4. They do cost less than $70 at most places and come in bone/G10, burl wood/stainless, and stag/stainless. Some people consider these more tactical but they seem slightly more traditional to me. They are linerlocks and do have pocket clips. My dad has one and is quite satisfied.

Lone Wolf Swale or Trask?
The Swale is almost 3 inch, and the Trask is 3.4 inches.

Also, Lone Wolf Ridge Top. That one is in 9cr and not N680 though.

The Al Mar Eagle is in your size range sans the pocket clip, but sporting natural scales, in jigged bone, or Micarta which is pretty nice still.

The Boker plus exkalamoor fits your original wish list to the T.

Modern mechanics but with wood scales, liner lock and pocket clip but traditional blade profile and a nail-knick (but still one hand opening). Comes in a smaller and larger size too for about $50.

Go to AG Russell and pick out something under $75! I personally am a huge fan of Peanuts. The CRKT Tribute is awesome. Kershaw Double Cross, the Shun/KAI Gentleman's folder is exceptional for its $30 price at William Sonoma. I've handled the KAI one seen below and thought it was a $125 knife it was razor sharp too and the micarta handles were perfect.

Advising on knives is like advising on beer. Personal taste is too varied.

IMO, looking for a pocket clipped knife that has an air of dignity is like looking for an IPA that isn't hoppy.

Pocket clips are not just functional, they're a statement. "Hey look. I've got a knife on me."

IMO, if you want understated, get a true pocket knife with no clip. Tons of options there.
