Gentlemans folder

What benchmade knife do you think makes for a good gentlemans folder? My presidio and 710 get too many comments while I play with them at work.

I'm looking for something with the axis lock and under $200, so gold class is out of the price range. I have a 530, which works but I prefer something with nicer scales, g10 or CF for a gentlemans folder.

The 690 makes a great gentleman's folder, but it's been discontinued.
The best of the current crop is the 470-1. It's got a nice aluminum frame/handle, axis-assist, and with a 3-inch blade and a 3.9-inch closed length, it's a nice size for an office environment.

My vote is for the 440 opportunist. Sleek design, and fancy looking to me anyways. I wish they still made this model.

Just read the axis lock part of the OP post. Yeah 470-1 would be a perfect fit it sounds like.

If you like the 710 you´ll love the 707 Sequel (bottom in pic).

Yup, the 707 is basically a baby 710. I've carried the 707 a lot when wearing business attire or in knife-sensitive environments. Also, while the 470 is prettier, the 707 is IMO a better knife all around (no silly assist or goofy safe, smaller in the pocket, etc.).

On the prettier side of things, how about a 480-1 or a 482?

If you like your 710 I would suggest a 943. Under $200 and in black scales it's a great office and Gentleman's knife!

Thanks for the suggestions. I like aluminum scales, but not on a knife I want to keep looking "nice". The aluminum on my presidio is beat to hell and I like it that way for that particular knife. I may just see about getting custom scales for the 530.

On the other hand, my coworkers started annoying the hell out of me today, so I'm going to start carrying my ZT. Still need a gentlemans folder at some point though.

So your saying you need a CF 770? This was my first thought. The knife's not in production anymore but it can still be found on the forums.

I picked up a megumi (the 482) about a month ago, although it is a nak lok, it is quite solid for its size, this thing is small. Much more on the "gentleman's" side IMO, I really like it as a pocket folder. Curious to see how well the grips holds up. My 300 axis is huge in comparison.

I have been EDCing the Opportunist for about 4 years. Good steel, nice harmless looking and best of all, you can turn the stop pin to adjust for wear of the liner lock.
