Received this evening, "Gentleman's Pronghorn" by Ed Fowler.
The blade has 3.5" and the OAL is a tad over 7".
Brass guard and sheep horn handle, of course :) Came with a sturdy leather sheath.
Very difficult to photograph, the convex bevels get any reflection imaginable from the surrounding object including camera.
Feels good in hand, surprising at first but has a nice feeling for such a small knife. The handle is curved to the left when you look from the top of the spine.
The blade shows a very fine crystalline (I guess) structure, easily visible in the right light. Very different from what I’ve seen on some L6 blades, the pattern on this one is very tight and runs in wavy and almost parallel lines. I’m not sure I explain it properly.
It does very good at push cuts and bites the fingernail with no pressure; shaves but you must apply pressure (expected with a sturdy convex blade).
I like it a lot, it’s very different from what I imagined based on pics (especially the handle) and I’m glad I got it.
Ed is a very fine guy, well spoken and easy to talk to. Thank you buddy!
Here is the small "beast":

Gorgeous, I really need to hold one of Ed's Knives. It looks like it would fit your hand like a glove.

ProngHorn is one of my all time favorite. Great knife.

Flava,
I've long admired Ed Fowler's work,I emailed him years ago but his records were fouled up then and he had a new girl sorting things out.
I ended up getting something else and always wished I would have gotten a Pronghorn.
Classic indeed.
Congrats!

Doug

I've got one, it's as close to the one Ed carries as he could make it.
It's a great knife, use yours in good health.

Nice knife! That wootzy lookin steel looks great. Maybe someday.....

He no longer takes order's correct? Where would be a good place to look for one of his knives?

Nice score, Flava! I should hopefully have my next one within a few months.

Artdeg, the knife model is a Pronghorn. That animal's horn is not suitable for a knife handle. I believe he uses Rambouillet sheephorn, which at least from the outside looks similar to Bighorn, not sure of any specific differences.

Barrabas, your best bet would be to pick one up at a show. You can get in touch with him on his forum, he should be hosting a chat session tonight at about 6PM Pacific time. Here's a link to his last<?> batch. http://knifetalkonline.com/smf/index.php?topic=566.0

Can't remember if it was Blade Show last year or the year before, Ed had a bag full of knives from Pronghorns to large bowies. Beautiful pieces.
Had a good conversation with him. He's quite a fellow.

Flava- I like that one you received. It has some real nice pinkish tones that you dont see in all of them (I am assuming its not just the photo because I have seen that a few times before)

Barrabas- Two years ago I bought a small one from him at Blade. I think he brings alot of them to Blade each year in a variety of sizes. Its the kind of knife that I would prefer to hold before purchasing because each one feels different in the hand, but all of them are of equal quality.

Everyone should own at least one :)

I thank you all for the generous and kind comments on the knife Flavious just received.

The Pronghorn is is named after an antelope, my favorite of Wyoming's big game animals, no two are exactly alike, but recognisable as from the same species.

I use only domestic sheep horn on my knives, many come from my own breeding of Rambouillet bucks that are cross bred with Barbados, Moufalon and some other buck a lady gave me years ago, others from horns of Rambouillet bucks I purchase at our local sale barn. I never use wild sheep horn simply because you never know what various game and fish laws will be in jurisdictions my knives may visit. The domestic horn is every bit as tough as the wild sheep horns.

I still take orders, but my only promise about delivery times is as soon as I can.

I have been making knives for Blade Show since February and plan on having a wide selection for view and purchase if you find one you like.

The grain structure Flavious noticed is the result of a 12 year experiment using the same steel from one pour with the aid of Rex Walter, a metallurgist and another man who does not want to be identified as well as many makers who have worked with me through the years. We have achieved ultra fine grain (astm 14 and finer) and a structure we call 52100 Wootz that has many benefits that can only be developed through the liberal application of tincture of time and elbow grease. Our knives hold an edge, are easy to sharpen and you can not break them in your hands. Mu guarantee is simple, to your satisfaction for my lifetime or your money back. (This is for purchases from me, I cannot afford what some bring on the secondary market, but I will refurbish any of my knives for the cost of postage)

If you would like to see photomicrographs of the steel, feel free to visit our forum listed below, do a search on photomicrographs and you will find them.

If you have any questions you can ask them here, on our forum or email me.

Again, Thank you for the kind and generous comments.
