i was aware that most chinooks would have minor vertical blade play, so earlier this month when i saw one in the shop that lock(ed) solidly and displayed no movement, i snapped it up on the spot.

now when i got home i was really surprised that after no more than 10 full stabs into air, the blade was loose and would rattle even on the slightest swing/twist. note the pivot did not come loose.

i really like this blade and hv every intention to keep it, so what should i do to eliminate the rattles?

i'm still on basic membership, meaning the search function's gone.
anyone kind enough to share their experience on this matter?

thanks~

Howdy Clement!

Whenever in doubt, send the Chinook back to Golden... Dr Mike of Warranty and Service will take a look at your sick Spydie. He'll fix it and nurse it back to health.. :D

Clement,

That is most strange...how it would be tight at first then go loose like that.

I would ship it to Spyderco for assessment, as Samo suggested. They will take good care of you.

Jeff/1911.

Somehow the pivot had to have got loose. I cant think of any other way that would occur.

thanks guys~

actually i marked the pivot/hex before flipping out blade for the first time(a small pactice i do on all new folders). the pivot does not seem to have moved. but i'll check again.

right now the rattle's not my top concern. i still have friends missing in bali. damn already i lost a high school bud last year in NYC. man i'm running out of friends to die. this is bad.

take care~

PS. hey samo, i do think we have a mutual friend, remember catus?

Clement,

I am having a good thought for you and your friends...I do hope you receive good news about them.

Best wishes, Jeff/1911.

thank you jeff.

rather annoying ordinary folks are dying like flies. line crossed, rules broken. just ain't right.

still, life goes on. cheers mate.

Hey I found an easy fix for the problem. Just put a size #1 O-ring on the pivot screw, and tighten as usual without using lock-tite.
After this tiny fix I had done numerous full power stabs/slashes/chops. It would still develop progressive vertical play but zero horizontal play~ the pivot screw stays put.
Worth a try.
Cheers~

That's a really great idea, I'll try that out. Thanks!
