Hi so im looking for a smaller knife that is more sheeple friendly but also classy. Since i have large folders that tend to scare the sheeple. I usually carry my spyderco D'allara. I was looking at the Spyderco Cricket can anyone tell me their thoughts on it? or any other knives of the sort?

thanks

One of the small Swiss Army Knives might be just what you need. It is well known and I think few people fear the brand. I like the Classic.

Since you seem to like Spyderco, the Kiwi and Kopa might be worth a look. Both are small, unthreatening and available in a number of "classy" handle materials.

Al Mar makes a "bird-of-prey" line of knives (Osprey, Eagle, etc,) that are available with exotic woods handles.

For something more old-school, Case makes a couple different small folders (peanut, pen, etc) that are available with fancy handle matieral like mother-of-pearl or various semi-precious stones.

I'm sure you will get lots of other recomendations. ;)

thanks ill definably take a look. do you think $55 is over paying for the cricket?

Keep your eye out for the new Spyderco UKPK models in Titanium and carbon fiber. Don't know when they will be released but the protypes look very sleek and besides being a great, small knife they don't tend to make sheeple jumpy.

The Bob Lum chinese folders by Spyderco are also a nice gentlemens folder. Spyderco has a prototype in carbon fiber that I hope they produce that looks very classy.

CRKT Ripple. not a CRKT fan but I'm spreading the word on this knife. Its just awesome for a light duty edc. It replaced my Kershaw Leek.

I agree with carbon fiber for a gentleman's knife. Very stylish.

I think spyderco has some great models for classier occasions, dragonfly, cat and chicago are worth looking at. but sometimes just a simple stainless SAK will do, lots of choices out there.

If you like Spyderco, keep an eye out for a Copilot. One pops ups now and then. Classic blade shape, black aluminum handles. I've had one for years and I've removed the clip, so it just rests in my pocket. I forget it's there.

Al mar as mentioned above are rather nice for gents folders, as are many traditional models. They are made by moki so they have offerings as well, and they make some of the spyderco models. Gents folder means a wide array of 'types' so perhaps it is best to suggest that by including some parameters:

price ceiling
slipjoint
number of blades/tools
shape of blade, e.g. clip, wharncliff...
lock (type if applicable)
handle material (metal, bone, wood, micarta, etc.)
blade material, SS (type), carbon, damascus
size OAL, blade and cutting edge lengths
clip or no clip
weight

Once you can answer these questions, you should be able to narry things down considerably.

My choice is not currently in production at Kershaw, but at least one evil-bay source still has it BIN for just under a C-note (List was $120 - it was frequently available for ~$70 last year through some evil-bayers, even just after it went out of production.). It's been in & out of production a few times over the years.

It is the Kershaw 1993-2 'Gentleman's Folder'. Made in Seki, Japan, it has a 3.1" drop point lockback blade of VG-10 in a brass lined black Micarta handle with brass pins and lanyard tube. It includes a decent black leather sheath with a cheesy plastic belt hook (I cut that out!). A very nicely made and classy pocket knife. Mine has an even bevel and came razor sharp.

Not the best picture, but it really is a nice knife. Much more sheeple-friendly than my B-M 610 Rukus or 630 Skirmish.

Buck 110, 503 or 505... the hunter, prince and knight are all superb models for gentleman's carry. I have a Knight that has never been touched sitting in the pocket of my suit... don't want the temptation of making it ugly for when I really do need a gentleman's knife...

hey guys thanks for all the suggestions. i went ahead and ordered the cricket :) should go nicely with my Rolex Submariner :P
feel free to keep this discussion open though.
im a n00b so i dont know whats normal yet so i apologize lol
