Hi to everybody-so far according to my research I have found out - there are only two genuine khukuri manufacturers-(those who are selling their handmade products online),,,,and that I believe is only KHHI (Khukuri House Handicraft Industry) & HI (Himalayan Imports).......from what under direct Nepalese ownership is only KHHI . Apart of this-there is number of companies out there imitating products of these two manufacturers - often using cheap replicas of poor quality constructed in Pakistan and India, selling them for same prices, nearly all of these companies claiming their are the "only genuine" or premier products in Nepal....Question is-does anyone found another reliable manufacturer based in Nepal doing khukuries traditional way-as KHHI and HI and is also havin online site? Thanks

Actually HI is owned by a Nepalese. Auntie Yangdu is Nepalese, and her father oversees the business operations in Nepal.

HI has an absolutely rabid, loyal following on this forum. Go on over and take a gander.

They have their own subforum on here.

Last Christmas my friend who is a Green Beret sent me a khukuri from Khukuri House Handicraft Industry in Nepal. He sent me a lot of pictures of the shop. All I can say is wow they have a lot of steel there! Let me just say the Khukuri I got is an awesome piece of steel. The 2 small companion blades are a bit too small for my guerilla hands.

HI's forum is great, lots f very friendly and knowledgeable people there and Yangdu offers many deals and 1 of a kind items.

To answer your main question though, HI and KH are the only companies I am aware of, I think the logistics of getting a regular reliable supply of blades made is daunting, not to mention the problems of getting them imported.

I've not visited the factories, but believe there are more than a few companies selling khukuri made in Nepal. Add Tora to the list. Historically, khukuri have been made in places other than Nepal, mainly India, which used to include modern day Pakistan. I wouldn't get hung up on trying to determine where they are made as inferior products can come out of Nepal just like any other place. If you're shopping, do your research and look at the specific company's record. If it's sold as "from Nepal", I wouldn't question it myself. Antique khukuri are a whole other topic and I hear Pakistan turns out quite a few fakes. Good luck.
