Here is an odd little switchblade I have not seen before. By George Schrade Knife Co., Bridgeport, Connecticut.

More pictures and details HERE

Clip blade tang stamped G. SCHRADE arched / B'PORT CT. on the reverse side,
and on the obverse side PRESTO / PAT. PEND-G

I am trying to figure out when it was made, and what patent is referred to.

I've ruled out the two G Schrade pull-ball patents, and the two Wire Jack patents. ;)

Possibly 2,188,762 of January 1940?

Or possibly a patent I have not seen, that protected the guards captive under the handle covers?

Do you know anything about this knife or its patent?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Yes, I looked at those earlier.

2,188,762 of January 1940 might be it....

Or maybe there is one hiding, a different patentee.

You could be right.
George started using the Presto stamp about 1929 and the patent you mention seems to be for the sliding lock. Took a long time for them to find a solution to what must have been a nasty surprise when the knife sprung in a pocket!
I don't believe George let any of his patents be owned/assigned to Presto but I'll take a look.

The original sliding lock patent was 1910, assigned to Schrade Cut Co., expired before G Schrade Knife Co began in business.

I have not actually read that 1940 PRESTO patent all the way through.
Seems to be about a brake on the blade as it opens, so it won't rebound.
I don't think Schrade ever actually solved that problem.
Kept trying all his life.
