Hello All,

My dad bought this knife back in the 70's and passed it along to me (along with a South Carolina Wildlife book featuring George Herron) recently. The serial number is 2283 (blade length 3.5 '' and overall length 8.5'') and I think he said the handle was made out of cherry. I was just wanting any information I could get about this knife such as ...how many were made? How old is it? How much is it worth? etc ....

Thank you in advance for any insight.

SJ, Very nice and collectable knife and book. Out of curiousity, what year was the book printed? Thanks!

The book was published in 1978 by South Carolina Wildlife and is over 200 pages of everything to do with hunting in SC. It talks about how things used to be way back when from the 1978 present tense. Its a really cool book.

Thanks for all the information Johnstone246. VERY helpful.

I called my dad and he clarified and I had it wrong. He said it wasn't cherry nor was it a 70's knife.

He said Herron had a stand at the 2nd South Eastern Wildlife Expo in Charleston, which I guess was in the early 80's. He ordered a knife at the event and says he didn't recall what wood it was, but that it was the most expensive option of all the woods available, adding like $100.00 to the overall cost of the knife which was $350.00 delivered 3 or 4 months later. This is what he recalled, but he is getting up there in age.

I'm still trying to figure out the wood, but it does look like a number 2 from the photos Johnstone246 linked me to.

And also its a 4 inch blade. I was measuring the edge only. I don't know much about knives.

Thanks,

SJ

Final analysis based on all the input from the old man, posts and emails:

Thanks to all who contributed. Now I know what I've got and learned a lot along the way.

Great Forum.
