I recently acquired one of Lainharts knives. Seems to be a great piece (Got a great deal on it from our very own George Harrison of www.SRKnife.com. Ordered the knife Tuesday evening and recieved it from Minnesota today. End of plug).

The knife has a double edged blade with an interesting serration pattern on the top. The serrations are configured so that the knife may be sharpened as a plain edge. 1/4" thick blade of what I guess is 440c. Large integral guard (blade/guard one piece). Micarta slabs with steel pommel. Nice thick IWB leather sheath.

I remember several years ago, he was making some knives for SEAL Team 2. I think that he did a couple of knives for some movies too.

I have never been able to see one of his knives in person and there seems to be little information on the net about him.

Does anyone have ANY info about him or his knives? Steel used, value, etc.?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Take care,
Derek

The #1 Hard Use Knives In The World

sounds like you have 1 of his diving models. I read that he welds the guard and pommel on.I know he did the knife for the movie The Abyss. Its the 1 the SEAL team leader cuts himself with. The movie knife was a clip point and it sounds like you have the spear point version. Some of these only had the blade beveled halfway on the blade.I never heard a reason for it though. I hope this helps you out.

was4u,

Thanks for the input. Upon close inspection, I can see that the guard is welded on. Really clean job though.

Anyone else?

Thanks,
Derek

Is this the SEAL who does knives for other guys in the Teams? I seem to remember an article in SOF about him, but I don't remember many details...
