Hey guys,
I did a search, and I'm still confused.
I'm traveling to Georgia for a week to attend some company required training.
I'm used to carrying these knives with me all the time:

What CAN I carry in Georgia, and what CAN'T I carry?
What is "open carry" and what is concealed?
What is considered an "offensive and defensive" knife?
Should I go ahead and buy a small Kissing Crane Brown Mule and call it good?

I'll be on the training site most of the time, and I don't think I'll have to worry about it then. What I'm worried about is when I go into town, or when I'm traveling to and from the airport.

Thanks a bunch,

i read through the georgia weapons section, its a bit muddled. however, based on my interpretation it seems any concealed weapon is prohibited.

a knife must be carried open/visibly, ie in a belt sheath completely visible.

the section does not mention folding knives other than switchblades, and also says blades cannot be over 2 inches if concealed.

to be safe, id carry the larger folder in a belt sheath with shirt tucked in.

terms 'offensive/defensive' seem to be intended to cover any circumstance where the knife is a weapon. that is to say, if you admit to carrying for self defense, or admit to carrying because you are on your way to stab someone.

if you say it is just a tool you carry for opening boxes, mail, cutting yourself out of an overturned car, the secion does not seem to apply.

It is muddy but case law has typically held that anything under 3.5" is not designed for offense or defense. Having said that I know Atlanta has a 3" blade limit. Some other towns may as well. To be honest I've never had a problem. I wouldn't really recommend a fixed blade knife in Atlanta or Savannah. That might be interpeted as a weapon. I'd stick with a Spyderco Delica or a sub 3" knife and you should be okay. The 2" limit is in a section discussing weapons in prohibited areas like a school. Carry in any other area is governed by the previous paragraph. Send me a PM and I'll email you the complete text but since my source is on line you should check with the attorney general's office to be sure of my interpetation. I'm not a lawyer and don't play on on TV.

Thanks. I'll have to buy a sub 4" blade.
I'll blame you when my wife complains :).

Thanks again,
