Georgia knife preemption could someone please explain. Does this mean its legal to carry, and if so does blade length still play a part.

I don't know the GA state knife laws, but state "preemption" simply means that local laws can not be enacted that are more restrictive than the state law. In TN for example, we have preemption for firearms laws (except for any local ones that were enacted before 1986) but not for knives.

As example, here a city or county could not ban a certain type of firearm or method of firearm carry that is legal under state law, but they could impose a length or type limit on a knife that is more restrictive than state law.

Exactly what OhShoot said. The new law came about because the City of Atlanta had super strict knife laws in place, which put local law enforcement in massive conflict with the annual BLADE show and its attendants.

The state of Georgia itself has relatively relaxed knife laws, only prohibiting the carry of knives with blades longer than 5 inches that are "designed for the purpose of offense and defense." I don't believe Georgia has any laws on autos either.
